This is a sub-page of A Hat in Time (Windows, Mac OS X)/Modding Tools Content/Unused Graphics/Materials.
Contents
Particles
The swirl material for the scrapped design of the Pons from the Alpha and Prototype versions of the game.
A material for the older version of the bow texture for the Brewing Hat flasks.
Two bubble materials, one of them having a wavy effect.
A material for the scrapped Badge Points system, leftover from the Beta builds.
A test material for yarn thread.
A masked dust particle material.
Materials for water fluid particles.
Materials for spinning effects.
A material for a white smoke effect, apparently with non-additive shading according to its filename.
Dweller Materials
The old bright green dweller material seen in prerelease screenshots and footage.
Dweller materials for ghost characters, used in the Alpha builds in Mafia Town, albeit hidden. The colored materials only appear colored when in range of a dweller sphere.
A test material for dweller effects, according to the filename.
Camera
Two materials for the scrapped Camera Dust Explosion filter meant for DLC 1.
Characters
Hat Kid
The materials for the expression Hat Kid would get upon using the scrapped Quick Dodge Badge. They were also used for Snatcher Kid on the scrapped 3rd floor of Vanessa's manor.
The eyes meant to be used when the player is respawning in the unused crystal system. Can be seen in an early screenshot.
DJ Grooves
DJ Grooves' character package has two additional materials for his main diffuse texture, called "DJGrooves_Metal" and "DJGrooves_Fro". One of them is metallic and shiny, while the other has a fuzzy effect applied to it. Turns out these were made for additional detail on his character model, meant for parts of his pants, his microphone, and his afro. However, shortly before the release of the game, his character model was reimported to remove the additional material slots his model had that used these materials. Thus, in the final game, his model suffered a loss of detail compared to prerelease footage and screenshots. Exactly why this change was made to him is unknown.
Wheat
The unused materials for wheat that were found in the common foliage package. These have long since been removed from the Modding Tools.
Misc
A scrolling texture material for the effect seen when collecting an item in builds prior to the Beta. This material has long since been removed from the Modding Tools.
Two materials for the common scooter. The first is a shinier version of the material used for the handles, and the second one is for the scooter's wheels, which originally didn't use a unique texture.
A material effect for the player's jump dive ability, apparently.
Unknown. Called "lambert1" in its filename.
A flaming fireball material. Purpose unknown.
Stylized water (?) and an unused type of lava.
HatInTime_DanTesT
HatInTime_DanTesT is a completely unused package full of testing materials.
Two materials for testing pulsing material effects.
A material for testing wind effects on sand. Might've been made when testing materials for Sand 'n Sails.
Three different types of lava, with the first one having a very strong wavy shader in it.
Vanessa's Curse
An unused material for the Snatcher team victory graphics, one for Vanessa's team exists as well. Instead of being a dynamic illustration made up of multiple layers that move independently, this version simply rocks back and forth, using the otherwise unused full texture version of the team victory graphics.
A material for the older version of the level's garden grass, seen in early screenshots and footage. Three variations exist, but this one isn't used by any model, used or unused.
Three curious materials called 'Tag Actor Visuals', with unknown uses. The blue and purple materials may represent Snatcher's team (his team color was very likely purple originally), while the red one would be Vanessa's team.
Hidden within each material is an unused pulsing effect, as well.
According to the name of this material, this is an early version of the material used for the Frozen Solid Ice Hat flair.
An unused material for the box fox Ice Hat flair, as seen in prerelease footage back when it turned you into metal instead of completely ice.
An unused material for "Snatcher Baby Ghosts", confirming that a stackable Conductor baby event existed at one point. This would be the material used for the babies that the player carried, presumably.
Disconnected Material Effects
Within the material for the Soul Seller in the lobby is a strange red circle with an effect in the middle that aligns itself in the middle of the eye holes in the mask. Unknown purpose.
(Click to play) An unused shader effect in the cursed kiddo material that distorts the model. Likely leftover from an early version of the mode, as similar effects can be seen in the Vanessa Team victory text, each gravestone for every kiddo that gets cursed, and the small soul graphic that flies around said gravestone.
For some reason, this material used in the Snatcher crown shop menu has a random Snatcher Sticker graphic constantly flipping in the top left corner. Who knows what this could've been for.
Early | Final |
---|---|
An early version of the shine effect for crowns, being much slower and much thicker of a shine than the final.
Hidden inside of the material used for the icon reveal event is a graphic from the Projectile Badge, seemingly once serving the role of placeholder.
