A Hat in Time (Windows, Mac OS X)/Modding Tools Content/Unused Models/Sand 'n Sails, Alpine Skyline, and Time's End
This is a sub-page of A Hat in Time (Windows, Mac OS X)/Modding Tools Content/Unused Models.
Sand 'n Sails
Quite a few models for Sand 'n Sails are present, many of which were never seen outside of the Modding Tools.
Pumping Pumpkin Factory
The caged elevator seen in both Aruki's playthrough of Pumping Pumpkin Factory, as well as Habboi's. The top piece was meant to plug the hole in the top of the model, and open up when the player reached the top of the factory.
An updated version of the elevator for Pumping Pumpkin Factory, seen in concept art.
The model is exceptionally more detailed than the previous cage model. It has two metal rods that extend very far up, has bars that allow the player to see outside, and has a more mechanical appearance than the cage above, which had a metallic appearance in the footage of the factory.
These vines were, according to concept art and their filename, meant to be on top of the elevator above, and do indeed match up perfectly when placed on top of the model.
The doors for the updated elevator, also seen in concept art.
These stairs would lead up to the elevator at the entrance to the factory, as seen in concept art.
A large model meant for the very top of Pumping Pumpkin Factory, as can be seen in footage and screenshots of the level.
Pumpkin
A pumpkin! An unused actor class exists for this, which can be carried by Hat Kid. Most likely meant for Pumping Pumpkin Factory.
Chocolate Birdhouse
A chocolate chicken, meant for the Birdhouse in Sand 'n Sails.
Chocolate eggs meant for the Birdhouse in Sand 'n Sails.
Villages
The houses for the villages of Sand 'n Sails, which can be seen in nearly all footage and screenshots of the level. Only the first house had materials applied, while the rest use default textures.
The piece of wood meant to be stuck above each door of the houses in the Starting Village.
The door meant to be placed in the doorway of each of the houses.
The gate that was used in the Starting Village, as well as the door models for it. The door is two separate models. The design of the gate was reused for some archways in the Twilight Bell in the final game.
Well
The wells that the player could refill their water flasks at, according to unused localization. The material used by the base of the well is not in the Modding Tools, but the texture used by it still is.
Twilight Oasis
(Note that the main geometry for the Oasis, the actual grass and such, is used, as the "Stonehenge" area of Subcon Forest.)
Rocks meant to decorate the Oasis. The models are cutoff on their backsides, as they were made to fit the terrain of the sand in the level.
Rocks that are meant to adorn the small waterfall from the top pond to the lower one.
The model for the waterfall mentioned above.
The very deep hole meant to be under the Oasis. Diving down here would lead to the Twilight Dungeon.
Two models that make up the door that was to be found at the bottom of the Oasis.
The tunnel for the bottom of the Oasis, along with a frame for the door.
Twilight Dungeon
All of the models seen in the Twilight Dungeon developer video by Habboi are present in the Modding Tools, along with many more models for it that didn't appear in the footage.
The path for the first room of the level.
For some reason, however, each part of the path in the first room is split into its own individual model.
The path for the 2nd room of the level.
The tall tower that would rise up after a certain point in the level.
The paths for the switch puzzle room are present too, although these models are the revised versions seen at the very end of Habboi's developer video on the level.
The wire models seen in the revised version of the switch puzzle room are also present.
An unknown tower model, apparently also made for the switch puzzle room.
Model paths for the room where the player had to carry a starcore to the top of the spirals to reach a button.
Models for the room with the large wall with two holes in it.
More path models for the aforementioned room.
A cube. Filename states that it was intended for a wall of some kind.
A room that uses a pitch-black material. It has been highlighted in the image to allow its shape to be seen.
A bridge made up of three parts.
A door. Can be seen briefly in Habboi's video.
The door frame for the above door.
A large and tall pillar. Filename indicates it was meant for some kind of exit for the level.
A slanted passageway. Filename indicates it was meant for some kind of exit for the level.
According to the filename, this might've been used for some kind of fake exit for the level, perhaps as a kind of trap for the player.
Podiums and odd structures. The first model among these is one of the few Twilight Dungeon models to have textures applied by default.
A simple cube that acted as a modular platform for the level.
Three different spirals, with the last one being the complex platform arrangement for a tower that would rise up after a certain point in the level.
A model that would have a glass window in it. Used in one of the new areas shown at the end of Habboi's developer video.
Doors. The group of doors is labelled as placeholder in its filename.
Sandmobile
The Sandmobile, an invention by Thor to aid Hat Kid in her travels across the sands in Sand 'n Sails. ...Or, at least, it would've been if the chapter wasn't scrapped.
Progress Sign
A sign that was seen in two locations in Sand 'n Sails: one at the Starting Village, on top of a building, and the other at the entrance to Pumping Pumpkin Factory. It's not clear what the sign was meant for, but given its filename, it might've been used to inform the player if they've obtained at Time Piece at the current Sand Island or not. In Aruki's footage of Pumping Pumpkin Factory, a little graphic with red and green stars appears on it, with Hat Kid's head showing up on one of the stars. This material still exists in the Modding Tools, but the Hat Kid head is not present in it. The graphic is also strangely placed relative to the sign, being off-center and floating above it slightly. It's possible the sign, along with this material, were meant to convey some sort of map to the player, and completion status of the current Sand Island. In Habboi's footage of the level, however, both signs are gone (but the shadows of the signs were still present), suggesting the version Habboi played is later than the one Aruki played, and had been scrapped by that point in time. Other materials using these red and green stars, along with the Hat Kid head graphic do appear in the Modding Tools.
Sand Tower
Two models that make up the sand tower seen in some prerelease footage of Sand 'n Sails, as well as being visible on the planet in the Beta build. The tower has a strange design, twisting and turning in unnatural ways. It's covered in unknown green symbols. The complete model, overall, is a bit low poly for how big it was in the actual Sand 'n Sails map. The models normally are very small.
Yardang Ramp
Three different yardang ramps were made for Sand 'n Sails, and although two of them were used elsewhere in the game, this one in particular was never used anywhere. Its texture was used, though.
Alpine Skyline
Placeholder Windmill Blades
Placeholder blades for the Windmill in Alpine Skyline. Can be seen in some prerelease footage and screenshots.
Sand Travel Switch Flag
The model used by the scrapped Sand Travel Switch actor. Its material uses a shader to make the cloth sway back and forth.
Refinery Wheel Guide Model
A model that was apparently used as a guide for constructing the insides of The Windmill, according to its filename. This is all one model, so it cannot function as actual gears. There's rope that wraps around parts of the model, which is untextured.
Gravestone Models
Two models that are labelled as "alp_gravstone" internally. These models are UV mapped, but no textures for them are present in the Modding Tools. The main model for the gravestone was used on the final floor of Twilight Travels.
Intro Area Mountains
According to Habboi, this model was meant to surround the intro area to Alpine Skyline, but was cut for "dumb reasons". The mountains were apparently meant to be green.
Unused Mountain
An unused mountain meant for Alpine Skyline. Given its shape, it was likely intended to be background detail only.
Round About Horn Merged Meshes
Merged hay meshes that were supposed to be used in Round About Horn, but weren't for some reason.
A merged mesh intended for Round About Horn in Alpine Skyline, this time merging eggs on some peaks.
Mountain Test Models
Two test models for mountains for Alpine Skyline, which are among the earliest assets in the Modding Tools for the chapter.
Time's End
Arches
An arch made for Mustache Girl's castle.
A golden, metal arch with a Time Piece icon on top, also meant for Mustache Girl's castle.
Hookshot Cap Model
A small cap model apparently meant for hookshots in Mustcahe Girl's castle in some way, according to its filename. Speaking of filenames, the ones for the textures have a humorous typo that refers to the textures as the "hooshot cap" instead of the "hookshot cap".
Placeholder Lava Model
A placeholder mesh for lava in Mustache Girl's castle.
Castle Cage Base
According to the filename, this was meant to be the base that the cages in Mustache Girl's castle dangle from.
Placeholder Floor Model
A flat piece of geometry for a floor in Mustache Girl's castle. Marked as a placeholder in its filename.
Duplicate Hyperzone Arena
An unused duplicate of the final boss arena, called "hyperzone" internally. The used version of the model is called "HyperzoneArena". Up until the December 3 2023 patch for the game, both were identical in appearance. Now, the unused one still uses the hyperzone wall material that was used in-game until the aforementioned patch, while the used version uses a brand new, much less noisy material for its walls.
Time's End (Bookstore)
All of the geometry for the scrapped winter bookstore level is present in the Modding Tools, and all of the models still have their original textures and materials! If you've seen the level in the Alpha and Beta builds, there's not much new to see here.
Buildings
The four main types of buildings used in the level.
Top pieces of buildings, as well as the infamous entrance to the shop that Hat Adults walks out of in the early builds.
A wall with a pillar at the end of it.
The steps leading up to the main bookstore shop building.
Roads
A snowy path for for an alleyway.
Windows
Three common windows for the levels, with the big one being able to be looked inside of to see some books.
Two additional types of windows.
Misc Detail
A door, door frame, and doorway.
Five different types of gutters.
An interior corridor model. The model is normally pitch-black, so it has been highlighted here to more clearly show its shape.
Five different types of pillars.
Two vent pipes that were used on the tops of some buildings.
A book stand, used to prop up books that were seen inside windows.
The frozen fountain that was found in the plaza.
The frozen horse carriage that was found in the plaza is present as well.
