How about a nice leek in this trying time?
This page or section details content from the 2019 A Hat in Time DLC Leak.

On April 2 2019, something very unfortunate happened to Gears For Breakfast. An update to the game was pushed that was accidentally from their private repository branch, and essentially pushed the entirety of Nyakuza Metro and Online Party to the public branch, marking the 2nd time DLC 2 was leaked early. This was available to download for a very brief period of time. 26 seconds after that update was pushed, another build from the same internal branch was pushed, and still contained DLC 2 and Online Party. These were both rolled back almost immediately after that. Regardless, some people were still able to download them, and the builds caused a bit of controversy within the community, with people who talked about or showed images of the builds even getting banned from the Discord server or blocked on social media. The builds didn't even have any real work in progress content; virtually everything in the DLC was finalized at this point. And unlike the previous DLC leak builds, these builds don't suffer from missing texture addresses. The levels can be played perfectly normally without any issues. Nowadays, as the DLC came out several years ago, the builds are moreso a curiosity to poke around in. The first build that was pushed is dated March 31 2019, while the second build is dated April 2 2019. Both builds are virtually identical to each other, so the content discussed here applies to both builds. As a side-note, the images used on the DLC's Steam store page all have an internal date of April 2 2019, indicating that the images on the page very likely stem from these builds.

Level Differences

The level design, sounds, music, models, animations, voice acting, and overall gameplay is exactly the same as the final version. Thus, the differences lay in minor details.

Main Station Map Texture

One of the last changes made before the DLC released was a minor text change to the large metro map texture that can be seen at the main station. In the leak, reveal trailer, and DLC sneak preview stream, it read "Lazy Paw Metro", the level's early name. The final version says "Metro Map", and this change was accomplished by writing over the original text. A very small part of the old text can be seen in the final's texture.

Vine Mural

The unique wall graphic apparently made for VineSuace, a popular Youtuber/Twitch streamer, was present in the level at this point, and was removed very close to the DLC's release. It goes unused in the final game, and it's not known why it was removed. It could be found on a wall at the start of Green Clean Station.

Removed Trans Flag Wall Pictures

In the final version of Nyakuza Metro, there are two hidden trans flag wall paintings found, one in Yellow Overpass manhole and one in Green Clean Manhole. However, in these builds, there were a few more that could be found. These were, for some reason, removed from the final version.

This one can be found at the entrance to Pink Paw Station, on the right wall.

This flag can be found at the bottom of the large hole the player can climb down in Yellow Overpass.

This is a second flag in Yellow Overpass Manhole.

Coding Differences

Despite the builds being a mere three days apart, there are still some minor coding differences between the two.

  • A Kismet programming node for checking if the game is running on Linux was added for the April 2 build.
  • Added a couple new variables to collectible camera filters, one of which is "DefaultDoFDistance". Also added coding to check if the filter has a required DLC and if you've bought that DLC.
  • All of the unique coding in the Kaleidoscope camera filter was removed.
  • Added the 'InventoryDropDrate' variable, which is what determines if Stickers that appear are holographic or not.
  • The camera menu got some significant changes and fixes.
  • Some menus, including the main menu and file select menu, received some minor tweaks. The sliders for some menus was adjusted to accommodate for some kind of Linux limitation.

Other Differences

Even outside of the level itself, the builds have a few notable differences to the final release:

In the hub room for Nyakuza Metro, there are two hidden posters that are impossible to see normally.

These are posters that were meant to advertise the then-upcoming community event managed by Habboi, Timmy Day 2. For whatever reason, they were removed from the final release completely, and thus are exclusive to these two builds.

  • There are no Bow Kid save files. In the final release, having both Seal the Deal and Nyakuza Metro bought and downloaded will allow the player to create save files where the player plays as Bow Kid instead of Hat Kid, but only after they've beaten the game once.
  • Death Wish has not received its big nerf, yet. All Death Wishes are still at the same difficulty as they were in the December 2018 build of the game.
  • The cinematic cutscenes in Nyakuza Metro do not yet have subtitles.
  • Online Party does not display unique avatars for players, and there are no default avatars for players yet, either.
