This page details bugs of Jazz Jackrabbit (DOS).

Impossible 100%

In some levels it is not possible to collect all items, which means getting a 100% completion score for the level is impossible. Levels affected include Tubelectric 2, Nippius 2, Battleships 2 and Deserto 1.

In a level with zero items and an internal quota correctly set to zero, the game will score you 0% rather than 100%. This is a situation that never occurs in any of the releases, so this oversight does not affect gameplay.

Invisible Object Collision

The problematic area of Orbitus 2. The opening on the right is trivial to pass in 1.0, but in 1.3, this requires very precise movement to pull off.

Later versions of Jazz Jackrabbit have problems detecting collision with invisible objects. Invisible objects that Jazz interacts with include hidden springs, the airboard ditch triggers, the Jungrock flowers (which are invisible springs) and the Orbitus bouncy floors. All of these objects have issues in later versions due to the game failing to register collision.

These glitches could often be fixed by introducing a visible sprite. The hidden springs in Tubelectric 2 and Marbelara Secret go from hidden and functional, to hidden and non-functional, to visible and functional, to hidden and functional again. The airboard ditch triggers can have their functionality restored relatively easily by giving them a sprite of a single visible pixel, a workaround employed by both fan patches and the developers.

The Orbitus bouncy floor triggers also were "fixed" by giving them a sprite of a single pixel. Unfortunately this was an incomplete solution. Being only one pixel wide allowed the player to occasionally fall through the floor by accident. The developers attempted to correct this by widening the hitbox in version 1.3. Even more unfortunately, this rendered the entire level impassable due to the geometry of one area in Orbitus 2. A bouncy floor above a previously passable gap, now sucks Jazz into itself due to the bigger hitbox. This sucks Jazz upwards, away from the gap, and is extremely difficult to pass without cheats. Fans have created patches to adjust the layout of this area to compensate.

Lagunicus Boss Weapons Bug

This glitch is unique to Version 1.2 "Good." It causes your used weapon to be the weapon that is one slot ahead of your actually selected weapon. Selecting Blaster shots will produce Toaster shots, Toaster will fire RF Missiles, RF Missiles will shoot Launchers, and selecting Launchers causes you to fire the pellets from Hip-Hop, the bird buddy. TNT functions as normal.[1]

Jungrock Vines

The Jungrock vines restored to functionality by a fanmade mod created by "Love and Thunder"

The Jungrock level contains hanging vines which are intended to explode into leaves when Jazz passes them. Unusually for this game, this behaviour was not broken by a later version, but was never functional to begin with. The OpenJazz project restored this functionality to Jungrock for the first time.[2] The vines begin as an invisible object, so are likely another causality of hit detection not working with invisible objects.
