Burnout Legends is the first spin-off title in the arcade-racing series and was released in conjunction with Burnout Revenge, from which it borrows its soundtrack. It features numerous vehicles, tracks and other elements from past Burnout games, though only one car and one track from the original game return here. It is also the first game in the series to be released on handheld devices.

Titles30

Titles30.pmf is a strange little video. It shows an unknown car racing through what seems to be an early version of Motor City from Burnout Revenge. The audio track (stored as Titles30.at3) is Maxeen - Please from the Burnout 3: Takedown soundtrack. The video in general is an early CGI footage of Burnout Revenge when the game was called Rush Hour, as a similar video featuring the same vehicle can be found in the files of that game's demo. The video itself also seems to have been stretched from 640×480 to the 480×272 resolution of the PSP's display.

FEMain

FEMain.m2v is an equally strange video that would have played in the background of the main menu at some point in development.

It appears to be Burnout 2: Point of Impact gameplay, featuring three vehicles racing through what looks like a stripped-down version of Palm Bay Marina (R). All vehicles shown use their original models, including the Sport, which does not appear in Burnout Legends.

EA Games

It's the old EA Games logo. It challenges everything. It also has no sound.

Criterion Games

It's the old Criterion Games logo, although it's the Burnout 2 one and not the one used in Burnout 3. It has a scary dog in it.

Unused Models

Garage

Normally there is no model that's rendered in the garage, but there is a mesh of a small rectangle at a 10 degree angle that still remains in what once held the garage at US\C5_V1\static.dat

Unused Textures

This game has the title screen logo baked into the background video, and is also much more detailed than this flat logo found that's present amongst the files.

Several textures meant to be displayed for the demo build of Burnout Legends.

Placeholder Legal Screen

Blegends legal english.png

A placeholder legal screen. Not really a placeholder, given that the final game doesn't actually have one.

Buttons

Blegends A Button.pngBlegends B Button.png

While both of these are technically used, the game really uses a different, single texture containing the icons for all four face buttons, including these two, making both of these texture files redundant. In addition, the file names for these textures are A_Button and B_Button, which are leftovers from the Xbox version of Burnout 3.

Burnout 3: Takedown Leftovers

Textures

These were unused in Burnout 3, and are unused here once again. They're sixteen times smaller than their original counterparts.

Soundtrack Entries

About half of the soundtrack entries from Burnout 3, in addition to three placeholder ones, can be found along with the entries for the game's actual soundtrack.

Revisional Differences

Hmmm...
To do:
Check European, US and Japanese versions for more differences.

The Greatest Hits and Platinum versions, which were released in USA and Europe respectively have some differences from their original releases.

The initial revision of game has version 1.00 in USA and 1.01 in Europe, when Greatest Hits and Platinum revisions version are 2.00. Later rereleases contains more files.

  • The V2 (Reverse) variants of each track have SOUND.SDT and SOUND.SWD files in the re-release. Those sound files are identical to their V1 (Forwards) counterparts.
  • The US_C3_V1 track has an additional file Gamedata.bgd.des, which seems to be an earlier version of Gamedata.bgd.
  • The SUPR vehicle class has an additional folder named OLD. It contains older files for the Legend Hot Rod, which were made about a month earlier than they final versions (stored in CAR13 folder).
Early Final

The body paint on the earlier version is different - it's more bright and uses red background instead of black. The final version of texture contains the same paint used in Burnout 2: Point of Impact.

These additional files are also present in the Japanese and Korean releases.
