Nintendo and Intelligent Systems' take on a card battle role-playing game, featuring monsters and a kid who aims to become the best Card Hero battler.

The first game, Trade & Battle: Card Hero, was for Game Boy Color, followed by Kousoku Card Battle: Card Hero (DS) and Card Hero: Speed Battle Custom (DSiWare). A series of trading cards were also released, and at least one official tournament, similar to Pokémon.

Both the Card Hero series and Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru also feature the parody company "Nantendo", and there is a reference to Pokémon by an NPC in Trade & Battle: Card Hero as "Rocket Monsters".

Although there is evidence this series was planned for the West, it has remained a Japan-exclusive Nintendo IP.
