Sega's pillar in the console market finally manages to overtake Nintendo's, with a 55% majority. The 3DO Interactive Multiplayer (as in Multimedia) becomes the first 32-bit console released in America, though the asking price of a whopping US$700 is too hard to swallow for most. Also released is the first (not really) 64-bit console, the Atari Jaguar, which also happens to be Atari's last console. Nintendo packs 4 Mario titles in 1 cartridge. Towards the end of the year, one of the most influential FPSes in the world is released. In the realm of Hollywood, the first motion picture based on a video game also gets released in Hollywood Pictures' Super Mario Bros., to a rather polarizing response and a roughly $5 million loss.
