Crash: Mind Over Mutant (PlayStation 2, Wii, Xbox 360, PlayStation Portable)
|Crash: Mind over Mutant
Also known as: Crash: Génération Mutant (FR), Crash: Herrscher der Mutanten (DE), Crash: Guerra al Coco-Maníaco (ES), Crash: Il Dominio sui Mutanti (IT)
This game has unused areas.
Crash: Mind Over Mutant is the sequel to Crash of the Titans, with open-world environments.
The DEFAULT.RCF cement file contains four themes which go unused, and which are also present in the game's predecessor with the same filenames.
A 30-second theme with very whimsical and Crash-esque instruments. The name indicates it was a testing placeholder of some sort, and it may be a leftover from another one of Radical's games.
Very similar to the above track, with more simple and catchy instruments. As the name states, it's another temporary theme.
A shorter jingle with funky, disco-themed instruments. You know where this is going.
Different from the three themes documented above in that it's not merely twice as long and located in a different file directory (crash_temp_sounds, as opposed to sounds), but anybody familiar with the series will notice it's a jungle-themed remix of the traditional Crash Bandicoot theme, synonymous with the series since it was first used in Warped!
Unfortunately, the filename makes it clear that it was never intended to be anything more than a placeholder theme, rendering this iconic piece of Bandicoot paraphernalia unused in this game.
The PSP version contains two pre-rendered cutscenes, one of them unused. CAM_l8_r2_buttonorange_open.pmf depicts one of Space Head's main area's buttons, but with some textures improperly displayed and objects missing.
Are they still functional and accessible?
The main package of the game, the DEFAULT.RCF cement file, contains one unused level on the PS2 version (TestLevel01) and 31 unused levels on the PSP version:
- CombatArena01 (differences with the Crash of the Titans equivalent are unknown as of yet)
Unused Multiplayer Mode
The PSP version was going to have a Player vs. Player multiplayer mode, just like the PSP version of Crash of the Titans. The mode was ultimately scrapped, but text remnants remain.
