RegionIcon.png This game has regional differences.

Cross Fire, unrelated to Kyugo Boueki's earlier Famicom game of the same name, is a rather forgettable war-themed shoot'em up, though it does at least have both traditional vertical shooting segments and Commando-style top-down ones. It was originally an Airwolf game in Japan, though the fact that the US version is barely any different shows you that they didn't exactly make the most use out of the license.

Regional Differences

Title Screen

The title screen of the Japanese version first shows the letter W, and then shows the full name of the game. The word Airwolf has the background alternating between black and red. The US version directly displays the Cross Fire logo, which after a few seconds gains a fire effect within the game's title letters.

Commander

The digitized photo of the Airwolf commander was replaced with a rather goofy looking cartoon character.

Names

Both the helicopter and main character were renamed to due to the lack of a license. Oddly, the "valcan" and "thunde" typos weren't fixed.

Music

The Japanese version plays the Airwolf theme during the helicopter sections, which was of course replaced with a unique track in Cross Fire.

Hmmm...
To do:
Rip the music.
