Launched as part of a campaign against childhood obesity, Dance Dance Revolution Classroom Edition is a peculiar entry in the franchise. It boasts a songlist of almost 400, a considerable portion of which are songs that were present in the Ultramix and Universe games, as well as a handful of crossovers from the Wii game Walk It Out!.

Sadly, this quantity isn't representative of the quality of the charts, as they were all automatically generated and inserted as they were, even for songs from previous installments.

To think that Universe 4 died for this, too...

Unused Charts

The folder Data\Songs contains data for each of the game's songs, including audio and stepchart files, as well as for the game's playlists. These stepchart files may sometimes contain slots for charts that the game doesn't normally load, such as the Challenge difficulty and charts for Double mode, which this game does not have.

B4U (B4 ZA BEAT MIX)

Folder: bfo3
Contains Single Challenge and Double Beginner to Challenge charts. Their data matches that of Dance Dance Revolution Universe.

Cosmic Hammer

Folder: cham
Contains a Single Challenge chart, which is a duplicate of Single Basic.

La Cucaracha

Folder: cuca
Contains Double Basic to Expert charts. Their data matches that of Dance Dance Revolution Ultramix 2.

Sigrev2

Folder: devn
Contains a Double Challenge chart. Despite the labeling, it only uses the 1P side. It seems to also have been autogenerated, though the data is different compared to the used charts.

File: ddrce-devn.zip (6,21 MB) (info)

Dirty Digital

Folder: dirt
Contains a Double Beginner chart, which is a leftover from Dance Dance Revolution Universe 3.

Feeling of Love

Folder: flov
Contains a Single Challenge chart, which is a duplicate of Single Basic.

Genom Screams

Folder: geno
Contains Double Basic to Expert charts. Their data matches that of Dance Dance Revolution Extreme.

Groove 2001

Folder: groo
Contains Double Basic to Expert charts. Their data seems to be of more polished versions of the charts seen in the July 1, 2003 prototype of Dancing Stage Unleashed. It's likely that if the song made the final cut, it would have used these charts.

Insaner

Folder: insa
Contains a Single Challenge chart, which is a duplicate of Single Beginner.

Istanbul Cafe

Folder: istn
Contains Double Basic to Expert charts. Their data matches that of Dance Dance Revolution Ultramix 2.

More Deep (Ver. 2.1)

Folder: mode
Contains a Single Challenge chart. Seems to be unique.

MONDO STREET

Folder: mond
Contains Double Beginner to Expert charts. Their data matches that of Dance Dance Revolution Ultramix 4.

ORION 78 (Civilization Mix)

Folder: orio
Contains Double Basic to Expert chart, which match the data as of DDRMAX.

PARANOiA ETERNAL

Folder: peta
Contains Double Basic to Expert charts. Their data matches that of Dance Dance Revolution Extreme.

Red Room

Folder: redr
Contains Double Basic to Expert charts. Their data matches that of Dance Dance Revolution Ultramix 2.

Other

The following songs, all of them originating from Walk It Out!, have Double chart data, though they are merely placeholders, as they only contain a singular left arrow on the 1P side. While all have Double Basic to Expert charts, the songs marked with an asterisk don't have Double Beginner charts.

  • Bulldozer (wbull)
  • Dance While The Records Spin (wdawh)
  • Love Will be Waiting (wlowi)
  • Not The One (wnoto)
  • On The Floor Tonight (wontf) *
  • Outta My Way (wouta) *
  • TIME IN MOTION (wtime)

Unused Music

The fifth audio track in Sound.xwb, which, according to Sounds.xap, is labeled ui_splash, is the title screen background music from Dance Dance Revolution Universe 3. This track was heard in earlier builds of the game.

Development-Related Text

Present in Data\Sounds is !READ_ME.txt, which seems to be a guide on how to create Sounds.xwb, which is an audio file repository:

Note: Must build 'Sounds.xwb' to complete 'Data' and run a build
 1. Load 'Sounds.xap' into XACT 3.0
 2. Hit F7 key
 3. Click 'Finish'

Developer Credits

Throughout the game's files are multiple credits to programmer Dan Hewitt.

Dummy File

BOGUS.DAT is a dummy file which contains the following repeated string:

DHEWITT B O G U

Interestingly, the game's executable contains a "full" version of this string at offset 0xC05BC:

DHEWITT B O G U S . D A T

Playlist File

The file for the KONAMI HITS playlist, found at Data\Songs\KONAMI HITS.pla, also contains a credit at offset 0x20:

Dan Hewitt was here!

Other

Data\Sprites\UI\popup\dan.jpg is a picture of the programmer in question.

Ddrce-dan.jpg

Interestingly, this file is referenced by the game's executable, but a way to see it has not been found yet. The following text line, found at 0xC0308, seems to be related to the image in some way:

 lead programmer:
 DAN HEWITT

Oddities

A few of the game's song files have ID tags. One of them even comes from an unofficial file-sharing website!
