Deadly Rooms of Death is a turn-by-turn puzzle game series about smitemaster Beethro Budkin, whose job is to clear underground dungeons. The original game was released by Webfoot Technologies in 1997, but Erik Hermansen (the game's author) later released it as open-source and continued development.

Architects' Edition added a level editor!

Inaccessible Rooms

First Level: Once West

Though the room itself has an exit to the east, The Entrance doesn't have a corresponding exit to the west, so this room is inaccessible.

The orbs in the room have no effect. Every scroll in the room has a portion of the credits, which can be found in full inside the Help files. From right to left, top to bottom:

Notably, the last scroll's contents (with contact information) isn't found in the Help file, as the game wasn't being published by Webfoot anymore. It was shown in a demo on the original Webfoot DROD, via the Demo button.

This room was removed in DROD: King Dugan's Dungeon 2.0, a remake of the game under DROD 2.0 engine.

Thirteenth Level: Twice North Twice West

The entire level is a giant labyrinth, but some parts of the level are inaccessible – including a whole room.

The two orbs are functional and toggle the doors for the crossing pathways. There are plenty of entrances and exits in this room, but they all lead back to each other, thus an entire area to the north-west can't be accessed. This is best shown through the level map:

This room can be normally accessed in King Dugan's Dungeon 2.0, because the maze has been modified. Furthermore, as of the update for King Dugan's Dungeon 2.0 to account for the DROD 5.0 engine, you even get a challenge for finding the room.

Fourteenth Level: Thrice North

The room has an exit to the south, but the room Twice North (just south of it) doesn't have a corresponding exit to the north, thus it's unused.

DROD-AE L14 3N.png

The intended solution for the room is to hit each orb, which would open one of the three doors leading to the Roach Queens but would also release three Goblins. The room probably went unused because Goblins were only introduced on that very level, so expecting new players to survive multiple Goblins at once from multiple angles would be too much.

In King Dugan's Dungeon 2.0, this room was made accessible by including a crumbled wall on the north side of the room Twice North. A variation of this level was also included in King Dugan's Dungeon Lite, Episode 4. In both cases, it's an optional secret.

Unused Text

Twenty-Fifth Level introduces the Neather, who manipulates the dungeon and tries to kill you. Normally, he always manages to escape until the very last room of the level, but if you plan ahead and are very efficient with your movement (or just edit the level), and manage to actually stab him, then...

...and the Neather survives instead.

Hidden Placeholder Text

In the game, a sprites image called GameScreen has text saying "You shouldn't see this in the game, because the widget is on top if it." It is showing Fourth Level, Once North.
