Hmmm...
To do:

Every Extend Extra is a follow-up to the freeware Windows game Every Extend, a self-described "puzzle shooter" in which the goal is to blow up and create chain reactions.
In Japan and Korea, it was published under the Quest Beat label, which also houses Lumines, Meteos, and later the Gunpey reboots.

Unused Graphics

Early Menu Graphics

Inside of TITLE.TPK in the Japanese release only is a set of three graphics that could have been from a very early version of the game. According to the labels at the end of the .gim files, they were converted between October 12 and 13, 2005.

There are also two graphics exclusive to the Japanese release which are never seen.

Demo Leftovers

Between the skins' graphic packages is a graphic that is a leftover from demo versions of the game.

Unused Sounds

The following sounds can be found within SOUND\WAVE.

Common to Most Files

charge.wav

A sound supposed to be used when charging something.

p_exp.wav

A drum-like sound, purpose unknown.

suikomi2.wav

The title roughly translates to "Suction", so it may have been meant for a scrapped concept where either the player attracted the enemies or viceversa.

suidame.wav

The title roughly translates to "Suck in", so it could have been used when the player or an enemy have been sucked.

e3.wav

A text to speech voice saying "Every Extend". Could have possibly been meant for the game's title screen.

SE_MON.TPK (Boss Rush/VS)

Because minibosses don't appear in Boss Rush or in VS mode, these sounds are never heard normally.

Tojyou1.wav

Tojyou2.wav

Tojyou3.wav

1_mid_boss.wav

While a miniboss actually appears in the Demo, which plays when waiting long enough on the title screen, it doesn't play any sound when it shows up or is defeated.

SE_PIN.TPK (Classic Stages)

boss_exp2.wav

A sound related to a boss; might have had a similar purpose to p_exp.wav.

Move_nXX
These sounds would normally play whenever the player is charging up an explosion. This action isn't possible in the Classic stages, however, as the aircraft explodes immediately.

Move_n01.wav

Move_n02.wav

Move_n03.wav

Move_n04.wav

SE_FEE.TPK and SE_MAI.TPK (Stage α)

As with the Classic stages, these two files also contain boss_exp2.wav sounds.

JP (SE_MAI.TPK) US/EU (SE_FEE.TPK)

Exclusive to SE_MAI.TPK

The Japanese drive has also some extra sounds that would have effectively replaced some of the text-to-speech voicelines with an actual voiceover.

Filename Sound Notes
quicken
Used when collecting pink items
timextended
Used when collecting yellow items
getready
Used when the first aircraft is deployed
gameover
Used when the last aircraft explodes without spawning a new one

Unused Drive

The file SE_SON1.TPK contains a soundpack which isn't used by any of the drives present in the game. Only the sounds which they never show up in the game are labeled here.

File Name Audio Notes
1_big_boss.wav
Sound that plays when a boss is hit.
1_big_boss_death
Sound that plays when dealing the final blow to a boss.
1_mid_boss.wav
Sound that plays when a miniboss is defeated.
1_mo_dw.wav
Moving down would make this sound play.
1_mo_lt.wav
Moving left would make this sound play.
1_mo_rt.wav
Moving right would make this sound play.
1_mo_up.wav
Moving up would make this sound play.
bombitem.wav
Triggering a pulse-bomb would make this sound play.
boss_theme02.wav
Sound that plays when a boss appears.
chain10.wav
Plays whenever a chain from 10 to 19 explosions is done.
chain20.wav
Plays whenever a chain from 20 to 29 explosions is done.
chain30.wav
Plays whenever a chain of 30 or more explosions is done.
item_get.wav
Plays whenever the player collects a green collectable.
scatter.wav
Plays whenever the player gets hit by an enemy or bullet.

The following sounds are recycled:

  • BeautifulMove1/2/3/4.w, BeautifulBakuha., and BeautifulHassha. are recycled from Melatonin Drive.
  • toujou1/2/3.wav and rest_alarm.wav are recycled from Big Bang Drive.
  • ene01/02/03/04/05/06/07/08/09.wav are recycled from Saturday Night Drive.

While SE_SON2.TPK and SE_SON3.TPK also exist, the former is a duplicate of SE_SON1.TPK, and the latter is used for Nostalgia Drive.

MENU_SE (Main Menu)

Nyoki.wav

Found within the main menu sound effects file. The name is an onomatopoeia of "appearing" so it could have been either related to a notification when something is unlocked or a generic pop-up.

Unused Music

The following sounds can be found within the folder SOUND.

ES1

In this folder, there are two files of segment music which are never heard in the game, BA01_03_1.TPK and BA01_03_2.TPK respectively. They are part of the music that plays on the Demo, Boss Rush, and VS mode. A folder called MOD also has the files represented as segments of the song, but the two on ES1 appear to be unique, as they're absent in MOD.

BA01_03_1.TPK\Loop03_8s_1.wav

BA01_03_1.TPK\Loop03_8s_2.wav

SYS

This folder contains a singular file, labeled SELECT.TPK, which contains a track likely meant for an early version of the main menu. It is worth noting that this file is dated October 13, 2005, a whole six months before all other sound files.

SELECT.TPK\SELECT.wav

TIT

An unused folder which contains two files, labeled BA01_01.TPK and BA01_02.TPK. Curiously, their contents are segments of the song Bird by USCUS, which would later be repurposed for the PlayStation Portable release of Gunpey.

BA01_01.TPK\BirdLoop_00.wav

BA01_01.TPK\BirdLoop_01.wav

ES2

An unused folder which contains seemingly complete music data. Given the name, the calm nature of the song and the fact that it loops only when Loop20 ends and Loop01 starts, it could have been an earlier version of the Demo track.

Regional Differences

Overall

  • The American and European releases feature a demo of Lumines II, accessible from the title screen.

Gameplay

  • When collecting a Quicken item, a "GET QUICKEN" text is displayed in the Japanese version, which was changed to just "QUICKEN" overseas.
  • The sound played when collecting a Time Extension item is different between the Japanese and American/European versions.

Stage α

Stage α, which can be accessed by going in the lowest and furthest section of the branch path, is different between the Japanese and American/European releases.

The Japanese version's Stage α is titled MAIAHI Drive, and appropriately features a remix of Dragostea Din Tei by qp. The bullets and the stage's boss, IeI, are also themed after the song's "Maiahi, Maiahu, Maiaha, Maiaha-ha" section. Perhaps due to copyright reasons, this skin was completely replaced when the game was brought overseas, now being titled DUB Drive and featuring an original song, You can feel it by USCUS. The bullets and the stage's boss, SquallteT, now feature a skull motif.
