This is a sub-page of Fortnite: Battle Royale (Windows, Mac OS X).

It's an old cactus!
This page is showing its age.
Please update this page to fit our current standards!
Hmmm...
To do:
Improve formatting, add additional unused cosmetics.

Sets

Apex Protocol Set

There is a version of the "Apex Protocol" set with a yellow and blue color scheme that goes unused.

Hot-fixed Set Names

These sets had their names changed before their release.

Original Name Revised Name
Waffle Warrior Flap Jax
Volcanic Ash-sassin Volcanic Assassin

Outfits

"K-Pop"

In the v5.40 update, an untitled Outfit with the filename "K-Pop" was added to the game and was removed in the v6.20 update. Aspects of the skin's design were later repurposed for the iKONIK promotional skin.

The design elements of the K-Pop skin were seen in the Batnap Backbling and Stuffie Smasher Harvesting Tool, which were added to the files in the v14.60 update. The items were later released in the Item Shop as part of the Dream Team bundle.

Gemini

In the v8.40 update, an Outfit named "Gemini" was added into the game files which had 2 edit styles; one with blue coloration (default), and another with red coloration. The skin was removed in the v9.20 update, likely to to avoid comparisons to the "Raeve Maeve" skin from Paladins as the helmet bears a great resemblance to the one seen in that game.

Various aspects from the Gemini Outfit were later reused for the "Astro Assassin" skin, which was added into the files in the v9.30 update. Similar to the original outfit, the Astro Assassin outfit had two edit styles which featured the same coloration. When the outfit was added into the Item Shop on September 8th, 2019, the edit style was displayed in the preview image, but was not able to be equipped. The red style was eventually removed completely along with the release of Chapter 1: Season X (v10.00).

Strangely, the icon for the Gemini Outfit was added back into the files with the release of Chapter 2: Season 5 (v15.00), along with the rest of the assets in Chapter 3: Season 4 (v22.00). It's currently unknown whether the skin will eventually be released.

The Astro Assassin skin also came with the Cryo-Hops Back Bling, which was taken from the Gemini Outfit. Similar to the Outfit itself, it also had a red Edit Style, which is unused.

Marauders

in the recent 13.00 the marauders were added into the game as npcs and later removed in 14.00 but there skin files are still left over. Whats under the masks? for the heavy its a builder class hero from stw. the grunt class has a outlander head behind the mask and the third has none in 30.20 all 3 marauders got new icons instead of using placeholder icons

Gliders

Dev Test Asset

Hmmm...
To do:
Verify this is correct.

There is an unused glider called "Dev Test Asset" that is used by the developers to test new gliders on big outfits (like Brutus or Venom). It's also the only "Trascendent" cosmetic. footage of it in action

Umbrellas

  • Presumably, these were going to be rewarded for hitting certain Win Milestones, but they were never released. Currently, the reason these were scrapped is unknown. This idea was reintroduced in Chapter 4 Season 4 however, as players could unlock edit styles for the 'Time-Brella' glider depending on their rank. Note that the models seen below are still unused.

Emotes

Early Pick it Up

Hmmm...
To do:
Find and document all versions of the emote.

There was an unfinished version of the "Pick It Up" emote added in the v8.30 update. Before it was finished in the v9.20 update, there were 17 different versions with some having different icons, animations, or music.

Gunspinner Teacup

An Emote was added into the files with the release of Chapter 2: Season 1 (v11.00) update named "Gunspinner Teacup". This Emote was removed in the v12.61 update, but was later remade into the "Syrup Slinger" Emote, which was included as the tier 32 reward in the Chapter 2: Season 5 Battle Pass.

Audio of the unreleased Cryptography Emote
(Source: [2])

This Emote was first discovered in Chapter 2 Season 7.
The Audio was added as a test for the Rift Tour Event.
The Emote Audio uses the unreleased song : DaBaby ft. Migos - AM to PM
A Developer ID leak in 17.40 also confirmed this emote was ready for release, as it had a Item Shop Asset ready (DAv2_EID_Cryptography)

All of the data recovered of this emote:

  • Codename : EID_Cryptography
  • Icon by X User : ximton[4]
  • Audio by X User : DefaultsBR[5] & Wensoing[6]

Potential Reasons of scrapping :

  • DaBaby has faced criticism at the time for Homophobia.
  • The song used for this emote, never released.

Tunak Tunak Tun

The "Tunak Tunak Tun" Icon Series Emote was added to the files in the v19.01 update, but was removed in the v20.10 update. The Emote was based off of a popular dance performed by Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi in the official 1998 music video, which became an internet meme around the same time.

The release of the Emote was likely cancelled due to the controversy surrounding Daler Mehndi, who was sentenced to two years of imprisonment after being convicted in a human trafficking case.

The Emote's description simply read "Da da da.", a reference to the song itself.

a unused uncommon emote that had its animation removed in later builds storm salute

Ritual

its a duplicate of 2 already existing emotes (Clean Groove and Intensity) but without audio some unused emotes video 1:19 and 1:27

The former was used at an Alteration Altar to obtain the Howler Claws during Fortnitemares 2022. the latter wasn't used but it could've been for a similar purpose

Glow on

a duplicate emote of the glow sticks emote but with no audio. cite the video from rituals entry at 1:55

Wraps

Reflector

The "Reflector" Wrap was added in the Chapter 2: Season 4 update (v14.00) along with the other Silver Surfer cosmetics. While the rest of the Silver Surfer cosmetics were released, the Wrap itself hasn't yet seen the light of day. It did however get an updated Featured Icon in v30.40, which might suggest it might release at some point after being added 4 years ago.

Music

"TBD"

(Source: source needed)

With the release of Chapter 1: Season 6 (v6.00)[1], A Lobby Track named "TBD" was added. The music it calls is the Mission Intro from Fortnite: Save the World. When the item is viewed in game, it plays the default lobby music.[1]

"S17Upsell"

(Source: source needed)

This was a unused Music Pack that was never actually added to the game files but it's ID was found.
The Audio can therefore only be suspected, but using the Codename "S17Upsell" some files were found that could be its sound.

"DarkTrio"

This was a unused Music Pack that was never actually added to the game files but it's ID was found.
All we know is that this relates to the "The First Shadows" Set from Fortnite Crew. It also has a Instrumental Version

"FortniteMares2021"

This was a unused Music Pack that was never actually added to the game files but it's ID was found.
The Composer of the Music for Fortnitemares 2021, actually uploaded some tracks he made. It's quite likely that one of those is the MusicPack Sound

"KeeperDream"

This was a unused Music Pack that was never actually added to the game files but it's ID was found.
This cosmetic is 100% related to the K-POP Group BTS, as thier content follows the same codename.
The Music is quite likely to be Dynamite by BTS

"S10Cine"

This Music Packs existence was leaked by Epic themselves, later confirmed via the ID being leaked. The Music Pack likely sounded like the song Novelty Act by Steve Martin[7]

Emojis

Shouts

A new cosmetic type called "Shouts" was added in Chapter 2: Season 2. These would have been activated similar to Emotes, and instead play a short audio byte.

Additional Locker Slots

(Source: LostOfFortnite)

A few cosmetic types have corresponding slots in the Locker, but remain unused. These include:

  • Hat
    • Self explanatory.
  • Taunt
    • Potentially a slot where Emotes can be set, which would automatically play upon eliminating another player.
  • Victory Pose
    • Likely a slot where Emotes can be set, which would automatically play upon a Victory Royale.
  • Cart Bling
    • Likely additional cosmetics for vehicles.
  • Calling Card
    • Likely similar to how they work in, where your equipped Calling Card would be displayed on the enemy's screen after you eliminated them.
  • Map Marker
    • Likely would have replaced the icon seen on the map when you ping a location.
  • Battle Bus
    • Would allow the user to customize the appearance of the Battle Bus / the music it plays.
