Game ID

At the beginning of the game's HDD data, a string containing the game's ID and version can be found.

GQ988 beatmania CompleteMIX 2 ver1.00[EOF]

Codename

In the main CPU, offset 0x24347 in the Japanese version and 0x24099 in the American release seems to be some sort of "codename" for the game:

Japan US
988 IT IS NOT EASY TO BE A DJ
988-UA IT IS NOT EASY TO BE A DJ

Regional Differences

When the game was released to the American market, under the title of hiphopmania completeMIX 2, it went through several changes:

Gameplay

  • A new DIP switch setting was added, in which the gauge type in the Normal and Hard modes can be changed. It is set to "On Stage Middle" by default, which acts more or less like the Expert gauge.
  • The Perfect Play setting was added to Expert mode, accessible by selecting the mode while holding the Effect button. It is essentially a "sudden death" modifier, in which getting anything lower than a Good results in an instant game over.

Songlist

  • None of the licensed songs from beatmania 5thMIX (ALL PRO, DO IT ALL NIGHT, FINDING A NEW WORLD, MOTIVATION, OPERATOR, THE ONLY WAY IS UP, THE RACE, TOTAL RECALL, UP ON THE FLOOR and WONDERLAND) are present. Their artist slots in the ending credits were also removed.
