Hylics 2 is the sequel to Hylics, featuring much more complex and higher-quality animation, the ability to jump and glide, and a more comprehensive plot.

A few playable characters from early versions of the game still have graphical remnants present in the final release.

The game underwent roughly two months of updates after its open beta and subsequent Steam release.

v27c (6/20/2020)

The initial Steam release.

  • Default run control changed from V to Z.

v28 (6/23/2020)

  • Friction adjusted. Wayne now slides when moving against a wall while on the ground.
  • Fixed: inescapable black screen after using the afterlife warp pool under certain circumstances.
  • Other minor changes.

v29 (6/24/2020)

  • Jumping is now briefly possible after walking/falling off ledges.
  • The joystick's automatic walk/run switching can be disabled.
  • 1920×1080 and 3840×2160 resolutions added to Options.

v30 (6/25/2020)

  • A landing indicator now appears under Wayne for easier navigation. It can be toggled in the Options menu.
  • Attempting an air-dash should no longer lead to rolling (side effect of v29's changes).
  • Checkpoints in the sidescroller minigame should now reset correctly after the minigame is completed.
  • Steps taken to prevent binding mouse button to controls.
  • Easy mode now adds a slight boost to the player's Power stat.
  • Coin colliders are now 250% larger.

v31 (6/28/2020)

Bug Fixes:

  • Air-dash should no longer lead to walking on air in certain situations.
  • Battles in the 2D maze should no longer fail when loading saves, made in the maze, from the title screen.
  • Control customizations should no longer reset when restarting the program.
  • Certain invisible boundaries should no longer be climbable.
  • Misc. minor fixes.

Features:

  • Additional instructions added at beginning of sidescroller minigame.
  • Location of Airship respawner made clearer.

  • Warp pools may now be activated via nearby buttons, instead of by sinking into them and traveling to the afterlife.

Battle changes:

  • Poolman enemy's copies will match the health of their creator.
  • Poolman farming limited.
  • Sauoplit will now use its ability.
  • Damage-over-Time (DoT) effects moved from end-of-turn to beginning-of-turn, to correct interaction between Sleep/Stun status and DoT effects.
  • Offset added to status effect notifications for improved legibility.

Bug Fixes:

  • A Galliform enemy had an incorrect defeat event, which caused crashes.
  • Enemy Charge used player Charge formula.

Optimization:

  • Some large scenes have been split into multiple scenes.

v33 (7/13/2020)

  • Autosave.
  • It is now possible to immediately surrender while in battle via the new "PERISH" ability. This can save time when defeat is inevitable. The ability only functions while in battle. It does not currently have an animation.

Adjustments to movement in the 2D sidescroller:

  • Smoother jumping while walking into a wall.
  • Simplification of some uneven floors.

Bug fixes:

  • Fixed: Poolman's health/loot variables were not reset correctly in the first-person labyrinth scene.
  • Fixed: Dying while riding a flying carpet caused other moving platforms to function incorrectly.
  • Misc. small fixes.

v34 (7/19/2020)

Fixed:

  • Defend status was ignored in some situations.
  • Loading saves made in v32 or earlier with Hard Mode on resulted in enemies dealing 0 damage until the difficulty was reset once.
  • It was possible to jump out of the Soul Crisper house into the void.
  • Time was unfrozen when exiting some Options menu dialogue boxes.
  • Misc.

v35c (8/9/2020)

Feature:

  • Improved controller support. Support for all joysticks/triggers.
  • It is now possible to adjust controls via the title menu.

Bug fix:

  • It should no longer be possible to jump higher by jumping while running up an incline.

v35d (8/15/2020)

  • In battle, targets may once again be selected with the left/right keys or horizontal joystick input.

v36b (8/26/2020)

Feature:

  • God Mode option added to sidescroller area.

Bug Fixes:

  • To prevent a rare inescapable situation, autosaves will now only be made when the player is on the ground.
  • Underneath the desert area, an invisible wall was visible. It is now invisible.
  • An error in the immediately previous version, v36, caused the player to unexpectedly fall through the ground in some situations. This is now corrected.
