Jumpgate: The Reconstruction Initiative was a first-person spaceflight MMORPG inspired by games such as Elite and Freelancer. It was shut down on April 30, 2012 but the developers were generous enough to include an offline mode with a single sector and things to shoot. Nice.

The game came back from the dead in the form of a third-party unofficial server sometime in 2014 and has been running ever since. Most data comes from the most recent version of the game client (v1.0124).

Hmmm...
To do:
  • Fully document all unused items in the v1.0127 client.
  • Document all flyable but inaccessible ships in the v1.0127 client.
  • Catalog changes in the still-available v1.095 client.
  • Obtain in-game pictures of the item entries.
  • Write a section on how to access some of this content using a game memory editor.
  • Attempt to locate old game patches and search for additional finds.

Unused Items

Items in Jumpgate are represented by an item class, which represents the type of item (Commodity, Powerplant, Engine, Radar, ECM, Shield, Capacitor, Gun, Missile, MODx), and an internal ID which represents the actual item itself. Shield 1 is a different item from MODx, Gun, or Radar 1.

Custom Factory (MODx 55)

Image Description
Jumpgate modx 55.png This Station MODx adds a programmable automated factory to an existing Pilot-Owned Station.

This Player-Owned Station module was intended to allow a station to manufacture in-game items. It has a description, artwork, model and UI assets but was never made available to players nor is there any sign that it was ever used in-game. It does not appear in the in-game market and cannot be purchased.

Mission Computer (MODx 60)

Image Description
N/A This Station MODx is nonfunctional. TRI advises against purchase at this time.

This Player-Owned Station module was originally intended to provide Mission services at player stations, but was never completed. It is unknown as to how this would have actually worked. The module is still present in the game and appears to have a model (pos_missioncomputer.x), but has no artwork and a placeholder description stating that it should not be used.

Protector (Shield 11)

Image Description
Jumpgate shield 11.png Responding to complaints about the slow recharge rate of the Deflector model, OPL scraficed total capacity for a big improvement in restoration speed. Dubbed the Protector, it offers Apteryx pilots a viable option for a reasonable price.

The Protector is a fully realized Shield item that is visible in the v1.095 client, but is hidden in the v1.0124 client. It is complete with artwork, full statistics, a rank requirement, and a description, although the description has an obvious spelling error. This item was likely supposed to be reworked or removed.

Conflux Equipment

While these pieces of equipment are used by the game's AI (the Conflux), they are not available to players. All of these items have placeholder names except for the two missiles, no artwork, and a placeholder description consisting of a single '?'. They do not appear in the game marketplace, and have their required levels set to 60 (of 50), making them non-purchasable. They were originally known to be used by GameMasters flying Conflux ships during in-game story events.

Missiles

Unused Sounds

Sentient Conflux Songs (cc#.wav)

The cc#.wav files were event-specific sounds that only played during online events in which pilots encountered Sentient, or GM-Controlled Conflux. As there is no longer an official server available and they cannot be heard in the offline simulator, they go unused.

File Name Audio Description
cc1.wav
An eerie, ocean-like 'singing' noise backed by an eerie melody.
cc2.wav
A shorter track with different 'singing' noises and a shorter, eerie melody.
cc3.wav
A more ambient track with only the 'singing' noises present.
