Hmmm...
To do:
  • Add the lines from the remaining levels.
  • Grand Theft Auto III and Vice City leftovers; this should have their own section.
  • Add more info about the anti-piracy measures (a separate page may be required due to the sheer amount of measures in place).
  • The Cerberus Leader enemy has fully unused dialogue due to a typo in the code that calls for the regular Cerberus' lines instead.
  • Several out of bounds details (ex. Piggsy's corpse in Hard as Nails).
  • Document May 12, 2003 prototype.

Manhunt is a stealth-action and survival horror game, heavily known for its grotesque violence which caused an increase in controversies towards Rockstar Games. It's also notable for reusing some elements from Grand Theft Auto.

Debug Menu
An extensive debug menu that can be accessed via modding or cheat device codes.

Unused Weapons

  • Silenced Sniper Rifle: Only the HUD icon remains, but it can be seen in the Wardogs unlockable bonus artwork.
  • Spiked Baseball Bat: Can be accessed with the debug menu and is hidden behind a normally unreachable gate in the level "Doing Time". Uses the same execution animations as the normal bats.
  • Icepick: Can be accessed with the debug menu in the level "Divided They Fall". Uses the same execution animations as the axe.
  • Pipe: Only the HUD icon remains for this one.
  • Cane: Only the HUD icon remains, which only contains the text for the weapon.
  • Piggsy Wire: A piece of wire that was scripted to be used on Piggsy. The HUD icon, animation and model remain since it just uses the normal wire model. No execution audio remains.

Filename Oddities

Born Again's File Name

In Manhunt's files, the files for "Born Again" are called "Jury Turf", which references the scrapped gang called "The Jury", which might have been the first hunter group to be encountered, or it might have taken the role the Hoods now have, before being replaced.

Time 2 Die's Name

The folder is called "WEASEL" instead of bonus 4 suggesting it was supposed to be part of the main story which has more evidence including this is the only bonus mission that has unique music, has Starkweather directing you and it starts you off at front of the end of "Road to Ruin's" entrance gate which suggests this was the final mission for the hood's chapter.

Church 2's Level Order

The files only mention Church 2 suggesting there was meant to be a “church one”; However, it is not present in the files.

Oddities

Brawl Game's Image

In the thumbnail for Brawl Game, looking at the left theirs a Smiley's corpse suggesting they were supposed to appear in this bonus minigame.

Multiplayer

There was going to be a multiplayer feature in Manhunt, it goes cut for unknown reasons. A Multiplayer menu text can be found in various language text files.

Pre-Rendered Cutscenes

The pre-rendered cutscene subtitles have a backdrop on the PS2 version which isn't present on Windows and Xbox, and the Xbox version uses a different font compared to PS2 and Windows.

Pause Menu

The font used for the pause menu buttons is the same as the one used on the main menu for Windows. The buttons also have a blue selection highlight. PS2 and Xbox versions also have a grey bar on the bottom for both the pause and main menus that indicate which buttons will do what action.

Anti-Piracy

The Steam port of Manhunt is notorious for being incredibly buggy and nonfunctional without unofficial patches. While these were thought to be unintended bugs for years, this is actually the result of crack protection from the original CD version that was mistakenly triggered in the Steam edition. Many of these bugs make the game impossible to finish for a casual player and make some levels impossible to beat at all.

This issue appeared after Rockstar was caught using cracked versions of their game executables (specifically found first in Max Payne 2), so in 2010 they silently and hastily also replaced Manhunt's cracked executable with one that did not have the anti-piracy checks disabled. No further attempts have been made by Rockstar to fix this.

A list of measures are displayed below.

  • Any doors opening at the maximum angle will permanently lock every other door in the game.
    • Saving the game in the pirated version will keep the locked doors, and using that save in legitimate versions will not remove the locked door flags!
    • In Divided They Fall, Ramirez will be trapped in the small room in the apartment. Entering the room by using glitches allows you to easily kill him.
      • When the time runs out, the enemies in the cutscene will walk into a gate that is locked, but they'll eventually get teleported.
      • After restarting the game and loading the checkpoint, the chase will continue as normal until Ramirez runs to the exit door which is locked.
    • In White Trash, the intro shows Cash walking into a gate that is also locked, but the scripts won't teleport him. The player is able to walk around the alleyway until they fall out of the map and die.
      • After dying or restarting the game, Cash will be outside of the gate allowing him to progress.
    • In Drunk Driving, some gates can still be opened by the buzzers after a millisecond, requiring the player to run into them before the buzzers sound.
  • Painkillers can either:
    • Crash the game when Cash is unarmed
    • Show a message telling the player to swap their green class weapon with the painkillers, showing a question mark in the weapon icon. Swapping your weapon with the painkillers crashes the game.
    • Be allowed to actually be put in the inventory when Cash is holding a red or blue class weapon, however, using the painkillers in the inventory also crashes the game.
      • The painkillers when obtained in this method can be seen on Cash's belt.
  • Completing or exiting a level 3 times, or being in a scene for 5 minutes without restarting will either:
    • Crash when loaded
    • Load without any NPCs and scripts; The game also crashes when exiting the scene.
    • One of these happens with certain scenes, for example, Born Again crashes when loaded, and White Trash loads an empty map instead.
      • Strapped for Cash still shows Cash's relatives, except they're not tied to the pole they are usually on. Killing them will crash the game.
    • Freezing the internal counter will break the game's physics.
  • After 15 minutes or getting 5 headshots, the game will disable all keyboard, mouse, and gamepad input, followed by the crosshair disappearing.
    • After Cash dies, the player can still exit to the main menu or restart the scene, but doing so disables the input again.
  • The save option in the pause menu will not work.
  • Interactive objects will not glow, and will permanently disable all other interactive objects when the player or any NPC interacts with any of them. However, restarting the scene from a checkpoint reenables the objects until they're interacted with again.
  • Hunters will always have a very high anxiety level, making stealth scenes hard to complete.
  • Cash will take more damage than usual after 3 executions.
  • The player will lose more bullets when reloading if the spare bullet count can be divided by seven for weapons that use clips or magazines, or three for weapons that use rounds.
  • Dropping a body or object will cause a memory leak, resulting in crashes.
    • Entering a crane will pause the memory leak until Cash exits the crane.
  • Dropping 8 pickups will cause the pickups (except keys, painkillers, and heads) to despawn after 10 seconds instead of 1 minute.
    • When this happens, the next time an item is dropped by the player or NPC, a message appears above the radar saying "Dropped item marked to delete in 10 secs".
      • This line is always in English no matter what language you play the game on.

There are 3 hidden measures that can be enabled in the code (these are disabled in the hopes that individuals cracking the game would reenable them by accident):

  • Picking up a painkiller and then saving with the VHS tape will break the painkillers.
  • Whenever a help box is displayed, the game will cause a memory leak like with dropping objects. This only works for help boxes displayed by the scenes without using the scene selection menu.
  • Loading a save after dying will crash the game.
