Hmmm...
To do:
Oh boy, there's a lot to do:
This cactus is UNDER CONSTRUCTION
This article is a work in progress.
...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes.
So very stubbly.
This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion.
Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article?

Midtown Madness 2 is a free-roam racing/arcade sequel to Midtown Madness, fixing many of the issues that were in the previous game. It uses the same game engine as Midnight Club: Street Racing and Smuggler's Run, and as such shares a lot of unused features and files.

Cut Traffic Garbage Truck

A traffic garbage truck was originally going to appear in the game, but it was cut sometime in early development. The only remnants of the garbage truck in the game are its audio data files (va_garbagetruck_engine.csv and va_garbagetruck_engine.csv) in the cardata folder, a bound file stored in the bound folder (va_garbagetruck_BOUND.bnd), and AI vehicle data (va_garbagetruck.aiVehicleData). Other remnants of the garbage truck can also be found in other earlier builds.

Inside the mm2tex.ar file, a higher resolution of the side texture of Midnight Club: Street Racing's va_garbagetruck can also be found.

Unused Files

The French version of the game contains a lot of unused content and leftovers from Beta 2 (MM3366):

  • andi.txt contains partial directory listing with dates and file sizes:

  • vpdb731.pkg - An unused model and early version of the Aston Martin DB7 Vantage, it was last edited in November 1999, making this the oldest model found in the game. It is slightly longer and more accurate to the real Aston Martin DB7 Vantage.
  • j01.roam - A file for an unused map also seen in Midnight Club: Street Racing's files.
  • vpeagle - Unused Silver Eagle Fire Truck (planned as a backup in case the "trailer system" for the articulated American LaFrance Fire Truck could not work at all):

  • Wolf3 - Blank file, most likely a leftover model of the wolf from Smuggler's Run.
  • xx_sailboat_f - Unused version of sp_sailboat01_f without materials:

  • yucky - An unused, misplaced version of the Victoria and Albert Museum (kl_vic_albrt_musm_l.pkg):
