Need for Speed: Rivals
Need for Speed: Rivals |
---|
Also known as: NFS Rivals, Jupiter (Codename), Hot Pursuit 2 (Internally)
![]() ![]() |
To do: Improve grammar |
Need for Speed: Rivals is the pseudo-sequel to Criterion's Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, whilst being the first in the series to be made by a new developer, Ghost Games.
The developer who decided the pause menu shouldn't pause the game is my rival.

Unused Graphics
The filename Not_To_Be_Used_White_Line said this road texture is unused.
This cubemap texture is what appears to be taken during development of the game.
Default Sky textures that were used during the development of the game.
Default Sky Gradient texture that was used during the development of the game.
[AR Icon Textures] The texture in the top right is the Billboard texture IconBillboard (it looks like you could break billboards, but the idea was later scratched and only the texture is left). The texture in the top left is probably a Takedown event texture? IconTopTakeDown (probably there was a special event where you should wreck racers/cops as much as you could in a limited time, but It's not confirmed yet). The texture on the bottom left is the Drift texture IconDrift (maybe there were drift zones in the game, but the idea was later scratched and only the texture remains).
[Event Warning]
[Vita] It looks like NFS Rivals was supposed to be playable on the Vita, but because of the low sales of Most Wanted on the PlayStation Vita, Rivals was not developed for that platform.

OverWatch
Players could use OverWatch to manipulate the gameplay session of any other player that was on their Autolog friends list. Participating in OverWatch would reward the player with Speed Points that contributed only towards their OverWatch rank. Sadly, Overwatch was shut down for all platforms on March 15, 2018, making these VOs below unused.

It seems the idea was the same as in HP 2010, but it just so happened that it could not be implemented in time.

Trailers
To do: Move this stuff to a Prerelease page. |
There were 2 NFS Rivals Trailers that were public on the official Need For Speed YT Channel, but years later were unlisted for some reason.
A Teaser that was the first ever to officially confirm the next installment of the Need For Speed franchise, was published on 23rd May 2013.
This teaser also exists outside of the official NFS channel, on the Official EA UK channel the teaser is still public, but instead of an edited thumbnail, they decided to add the same image to the video, but raw, and it starts with a PEGI rating message, not an ESRB one.
Need for Speed Rivals 2015 Ford Mustang Gameplay Trailer
A Trailer that was supposed to announce the free car DLC for the game, which is Ford Mustang GT 2015, was published on 13rd December 2013.
Same situation as with the first Teaser Trailer.
If everyone to this day is still curious how come the 2015 car appeared in a 2013 game: “We worked closely with the development team at EA to provide them with engineering data for the new Mustang, several months before we showed it to the rest of the world,” said Mark Bentley, Ford product licensing manager. “Computer design models enabled the game developers to create an accurate representation of the new Mustang before it goes on sale.”
