Debug Menus Introduction

In a town, pressing Select brings up a menu with 5 possible options: Save, Load, Options, Port, End game. The hex range for these is $00-04. However, checks exist all the way up to $0F, and using Game Genie or Pro Action Replay (PAR) codes to access the higher values brings up a wide variety of debug menus. All of the below codes are for the US version of the game. After entering a code, select End game in the options menu to activate that debug menu.

Debug 05 (A)

input monster no. transports you to the location of, one of the at sea hazards. For example: 00 is the cargo destroying tornado at the Yucatan Peninsula, and, 01 is the ghost ship near Ilsa Dominica. If you select a "monster" while at a port, your ship(s) will be at the "monster" site after embarking, instead of next to the port you just left.

The Japanese text reads 波動KEN (HadouKEN).

Debug 06

Only available in the Japanese version. All that's left in the US version is a RTL command. Its main purpose seems to be writing $FF to the first byte in SRAM ($316000). The Japanese reads "Data Crash!!"

  • X: play SE.

Elementary, my dear Cactus.
This needs some investigation.
Discuss ideas and findings on the talk page.

Three selectable options. The second is blank in the US version (presumably, the Japanese font was removed), but can still be selected. These options need more investigation.
