Stage Select

At the PC Engine CD boot screen, press Run. When "Just a moment..." appears, hold Run + Select until the Naxat Soft logo appears. If done correctly, the "Start Stage" option in the options menu can now be changed to any stage in the game.

This also works in the version of the game used in Naxat Soft's Summer Carnival '93 competition the following year.

Version Differences

Nexzr was rereleased in 1993 as Summer Carnival '93: Nexzr Special as part of Naxat's Summer Carnival competition that year. This version strips out all of the cutscenes, while introducing a new "Carnival Mode" which features two gameplay modes: "Score Attack" and "Time Attack". These modes feature an emphasis on score, and thus allow for more continues and have more generously-placed powerups compared to the regular game.

Title Screen

Interestingly, while the title screen's background for Nexzr is static, the title screen for Summer Carnival '93 quickly fades out the galaxy space background after loading the logo before changing to an animated "moving stars" background.

Cutscenes

As mentioned, the opening and other cutscenes present in Nexzr were removed from Summer Carnival '93.

Audio

Hmmm...
To do:
Add the corresponding audio tracks from Nexzr.

Both versions of the game actually share the same Red Book soundtrack and audio, with only two differences: tracks 16 and 17 on Nexzr ("Heckner", "Opening 1"), which were used for cutscenes, were replaced with two new music tracks - "Time Attack" and "Score Attack", respectively.

Note that the track titles used are unofficial.

Track 17 Opening 1 Score Attack

CD Warning

Both Nexzr and Summer Carnival '93 have a special CD audio warning if the game disc is played in a standard CD audio player. This is different from the standard audio warning found in most PC Engine and TurboGrafx-16 games.
