The PlayStation 5 is Sony's fifth home console, the successor to the PlayStation 4. This, and Microsoft's Xbox Series X|S both sold out quickly within days of release due to COVID-19, causing a shortage of the current-gen consoles. Since Early-2023, both companies continued selling more of these consoles, as they both soon discontinue making first-party games for the last-gen consoles. This console is notable for containing a pre-installed game, Astro's Playroom, a sequel to Astro Bot Rescue Mission, which is used to test the capabilities of the DualSense controller and the console itself.

The PS5 had different trophy sounds when viewing a video made by the trophy notification. The April 26, 2021 system software update changed these sounds to those heard outside of videos.
