The PlayStation 5 is Sony's fifth home console. This and the Xbox Series X/S ended up selling out quicker than expected upon release due to major shortages caused by the COVID-19 pandemic at the time, though they've both been performing much better as of 2023.

The PS5 had different trophy sounds when viewing a video made by the trophy notification. The April 26, 2021 system software update changed these sounds to those heard outside of videos.
Shutdown screen
After the release of the PS5 Slim, the shutdown screen's PS5 silhouette was changed to be just the lights on the console instead of the console itself. The shutdown screen's animation was later completely changed in version 9.00.
Explore tab
The 10.00 system software update replaced the Explore tab with the Welcome tab that adds features such as custom backgrounds and widgets.
