This page details prerelease information and/or media for Active Lancer.

In mid-2000, the author's website offered some previews of what was then codenamed Whizbang Project.

Terrain

Three screenshots were available as of 29 June 2000. Two of them overlapped in content and have been merged below.

While some of the structures and the aesthetic of Chapter 2 are recognizable, nothing in the final game corresponds to the layout of these areas.

Ships

You might have noticed in one of those shots that the player is flying in a conventional spaceship rather than a winged exo-suit. Another preview, dated 24 May 2000, confirms that there was going to be a choice of three fighter craft to pilot.

F-117 Destroyer
Dubbed the destroyer because this ship can take down many weak enemies in a matter of seconds using its wave blasts. The wave blasts are nothing more than wide waves of energy that spreads out to cover a wide part of the battlefield.

F-117 Maverick
Traditionally, this is the ship of choice of solo pilots who could rely on no one for their special covert missions. This ship uses plasma blasts which is a good combination of power and range.

F-117 Vanguard
Typically the frontmost fighter, this ship uses concentrated beams of laser as its primary weapon. Although the range of the weapon is limited, the laser is extremely fast and powerful making it highly effective to pilots who know how to aim and make their shots count.
