This concept art depicts an early version of the room leading up to Snakemouth Den. It was posted on June 20th, 2016.[1]

Early Screenshots/Videos

Earliest Footage

On June 25th, 2016, the first video of the game was posted to the developer's Tumblr.[10]

  • At the start of the video, the background appears to "fade in".
  • The video shows us what appears to be the test room from Prototype v0.1. However, everything is missing except for the Ladybug Knight and the Test Shop.
  • The characters walk at a faster pace.
  • Leif's wings are completely blue. In all versions after the v0.1 Prototype, they have little bits that are yellow.
  • The descriptions of the items in the shop differ from other versions.
  • In the footage, an item that doesn't appear in the final game called is for sale at the Test Shop. It's called "Vitality Seed" and it costs 56 Berries.

Snakemouth Den Cutscene Footage

Some more footage was posted on August 6th, 2016. It shows Vi and Kabbu walking through the first room of Snakemouth Den.[11]

  • The room appears to be identical to the one shown in the v0.1 Prototype.
  • There are no enemies present in the room. They were added in the v0.1 Prototype.
  • The cutscene at the bridge differs from the final game.
June 2016 Build Final
Kabbu: A bridge...
It seems to be broken. My jump can't quite cover this distance.

Vi: Oh no! What a tragedy!
Should we just go home now?

Kabbu: ... But Bee, you can fly, can't you?

Vi: Bleh, it ain't my favorite thing to do.

Kabbu: Hm. Still, there must be a way for both of us to get
through...

Vi: It would be a shame if we spoiled that now, though.
So I guess we're trapped for today.
Kabbu: The bridge seems to be out. How
are we going to cross?

Vi: Well, that's it. Game over. Let's
go back.

Kabbu: Wait, Vi. Hold on! It's too soon to
give up! There must be a way...

Vi: Duh. I was kidding, you know?
Look over there!

Vi: One of those ancient switches!
We just need to hit it!

Kabbu: You can just fly over to it, right?

Vi: That's too much effort. I've got a
better plan.

Vi: My mighty Beemerang!
I just need to get in front with Z and press X to throw it!

Kabbu: That again?

Kabbu: I will trust you with this, then. Give
it your best shot!

Battle System

Bf-battleSystem-1.png

This screenshot was posted on July 23rd, 2016.[12]

  • There appears to only be four options that are available: Attack, Skills, Items, and a fourth option that is obscured by the Attack option.
    • We know for a fact that this unknown option is not the Turn Relay option, as that was added in a year later.[2]
  • "Attack" is written in the bottom-left corner of the screen with a different font.
  • Both bugs have a maximum of 10 HP. In the v0.1 Prototype, they had a maximum of 8 HP.

Battle Dialogue

Bf-PR-battleDialogue-1.png Bf-PR-battleDialogue-2.png Bf-PR-battleDialogue-3.png

These screenshots, which were all posted on July 30th, 2016, showcase some battle dialogue. Specifically the text that appears when each bug uses the "Spy" option on a Zombiant. [13]

  • The textbox is different.
  • We see more of this early font. It's clear that this is some kind of placeholder font, as the spacing looks messed up.
  • Leif's dialogue has some weird line spacing for some reason.
  • This dialogue is similar to the final version, but there are a few noticeable differences.

(Note: I was able to obtain some of the Prototype v0.1 dialogue from this video. Unfortunately, the video doesn't show all of the dialogue. If you could provide this missing dialogue, that would be greatly appreciated.)

July 2016 Build Prototype v0.1 Final
Vi's Dialogue "Eww. What is that growing on the ant's head?
It's so creepy! I think this is one of those...
"possessed bugs"!"

Let's take it out quickly!"
"Eww. What is that growing on the ant's head?
It's so creepy. I think this is one of those "possessed
bugs"!"

"It seems to have 5 HP. Maybe 3 attack too?"
"Eep! That Ant is... possessed!
No way!"

"That's just a story the Queen tells kids
to scare them...This is too creepy!"

"I'm gonna take it out!"
Kabbu's Dialogue "This ant...it's been reanimated post-mortem by a
cordyceps. It's movements are slow and predictable.

...I will personally end its suffering."
TBA "By Venus... That Ant walks after its
passing! A "Zombiant"!"

"I truly believed they were nothing more
than a myth."

"It is my duty as a fellow explorer...to
end its suffering!"
Leif's Dialogue "...Cordyceps. What an unsightly host did it pick.
Our ice attacks should be exceptionally effective.
Shall we get rid of this eyesore?"
"...Cordyceps. What an unsightly host it has picked."

"It possesses 5 HP and it's attacks deal 3 damage.
Our ice attacks should be exceptionally effective."

"Let us get rid of this eyesore."
"Cordyceps. It seems it picked an Ant as
its host. How weird, that it would attack us."

"It's nothing special, our attacks should
take it out quickly."
