This page details prerelease information and/or media for James Bond 007: Agent Under Fire (PlayStation 2).

James Bond 007: Agent Under Fire was originally going to be the PlayStation 2 version of The World Is Not Enough whilst a PC version was also planned. The PC version was cancelled and the game was renamed to Agent Under Fire. Further into development, it was decided that the game was to be the successor to GoldenEye 007. It would be heavily reworked just before its release. The game was then released on November 30th, 2001.

E3 2001 Footage

This is the earliest known footage for the game so far. It has a TON of differences, which can be seen in later videos.

  • The ammo text was different.
  • The Q-Claw text was different and in a different position.
  • It used the GoldenEye 007 health and armour HUD.
  • The weapons and ammo text for the "Precious Cargo" mission was different.
  • There is a timer present for the "Dangerous Pursuit" mission.
  • The BMW Z8's weapon text was different and in a different position.

Preview Build

This is early footage from PSW Magazine Issue 19 August 2001, over three months before the game was released. This footage can also be found on a German gaming website.

  • Bond wears a tuxedo in some missions.
  • The Malprave Armoured Van in the mission "Precious Cargo" is a silver colour as opposed to blue in the final game.
  • The weapon and ammo texts are different and placed in a different position.
  • The enemy vehicles that chase you in the missions "Precious Cargo" and "Dangerous Pursuit" are silver coloured as opposed to blue in the final game.
  • Zoe Nightshade has a different voice actor.
  • The car that Zoe drives in the mission "Precious Cargo" is very different to the car she drives in the final game.
  • The "hostages freed" and "helipad found" text in the mission "Night of the Jackal" is changed to "objective complete" in the final game.
  • It reused the GoldenEye 007 health and armour HUD.
  • The gadget text is different and is placed in a different position.
  • The Q-Claw gadget was originally connected to Bond's watch. It was changed to be connected to his mobile phone in the final game.
  • Explosions were bigger.
  • Carla the Jackals death in the mission "Night of the Jackal" was more violent.
  • John Cleese played R (!). He was removed from the game due to legal reasons. Note: He did appear in the commercial for the game.
  • The on-rails section with the gas station in the mission "Precious Cargo" was altered. You destroy it to pass by the enemies and get to the factory in the final game.
  • The vials you gather in the mission "Dangerous Pursuit" were very different to what they are in the final game.
  • The vehicle weapon text is different and in a different position.
  • There is a time limit present in the mission "Dangerous Pursuit". This was removed in the final game.
  • The"Mission Failed" text is different.

September 2001 Footage

This is footage that was found on a German gaming website, dated two months before release.

  • The ammo text for the KA57 is different.
  • Bond doesn't hold the Q-Claw when its being used.
  • The Q-Claw is missing its sound effect.
  • The "Hostages Freed" text is visible in the "Night of the Jackal" mission.
  • The GoldenEye 007 HUD can be seen.
  • The weapon text is different when Bond cycles through his weapons.
  • "Gunship destroyed" text can be seen at 2:04 for the "Night of the Jackal" mission.
  • The BMW Z8's weapon text was different and in a different position.
  • The weapons and ammo text for the "Precious Cargo" mission was different.

September 2001 GameSpot Preview Demo

This is footage of the game that originally came from the GameSpot website dated September 2001, that was preserved and uploaded onto YouTube by a retro gaming review channel. It has a vast amount of differences that can be seen in previous and future videos whilst shedding light on some jawdropping ones.

  • Bond is wearing a tuxedo.
  • The Botanical Facility level is shown in all its glory!
  • Bond uses his gun barrel image for his health bar.
  • The laser is green as opposed to red. Bond doesn't equip the Q-Laser to use it!
  • The guards have a completely different design to what they are in the final game!
  • Points text is visible.
  • Picked up keycard text and textbox is different.
  • The Mission Briefing screen was drastically different!
  • Missile text for the Aston Martin vehicle was different.
  • The last part of the Streets of Bucharest mission was very different!

PSM2 September 2001 Footage

This is footage of the game from an early PSM2 DVD dated September 2001.

  • The opening cutscene for Trouble in Paradise was completely different and the building was originally called the "Orchid Research Facility".
  • The guards who attacked you when you raised the alarm in Cold Reception had a completely different design.
  • Musical Cue text appears at 0:30 and 0:40.
  • Picked up keycard text is different at 1:11.
  • Changing the tank's weapons worked differently for Streets of Bucharest at 1:29.
  • The Abbey multiplayer map took place at night as opposed to day in the final game.
  • VIP match mode and killed by text was different.

PSWorld Preview Footage

This is footage of the game from the December 2001 PSWorld DVD which places it around the time of the September build. It has most of the same differences as the PSM2 and Gamespot Previews but has some subtle differences.

  • The weapon ammo number design changes throughout the video.
  • Gadgets don't need to be selected to be equipped.
  • AI and Musical text appears throughout the video.
  • More of the Botanical Facility can be seen.

Cybernet Preview Footage

This is footage of the game that was on a Cybernet DVD from around late 2001. It has most of the same differences as previous and future videos but has one new difference.

  • The opening section for Dangerous Pursuit was completely different.

Early Trailer

This is an early trailer for the game. It has many of the same differences as previous videos but also has its own.

  • The opening area of the "Dangerous Pursuit" mission was completely different than what it is in the final game.
  • The time limit for the "Dangerous Pursuit" mission is present.
  • The players in Multiplayer Mode were originally colour coded on the mini map. This was changed for the final game.
  • Explosion sound effects were different.
  • The weapon and ammo texts were different and in a different position.
  • The gadget text is different and placed in a different position.
  • There is no grunt sound effect when you are killed in Multiplayer Mode.
  • The post death transition effect for Multiplayer Mode isn't present.
  • The Trouble in Paradise level was entirely different at 0:39. It was known as "Botanical Facility" during the early stages of development. This is from a later build of the game as the ammo text matches the final game's ammo text.
  • Bond's gun barrel image is used for his health bar at 0:39. This is also from a later build. It's replaced by the health wheel in the final game.
  • Bond wears a tuxedo in some missions.
  • The missile launcher that Bond uses at 0:58 is completely different to the one he uses in the final game.
  • The logo is different.

Trailer

This is a trailer for the game. It's very close to the final game but it has some noticeable differences.

  • There is no gadget text when Bond has the Q-Glasses equipped at 0:24.
  • The Q-Laser is green instead of red at 0:28.
  • The ammo text is different at 0:39.
  • There is a time limit present for the Dangerous Pursuit mission at 0:42.
  • The rocket ammo text for the BMW Z8 is different at 0:42.
  • Bond's gun barrel image was now used for multiplayer at 0:51.

Commercial

This was the commercial used to hype the game. It has some intriguing differences.

  • There are different gun sound effects for Bond and the grunts from 0:06-0:08.
  • The first Bond Moment for the "Dangerous Pursuit" mission is different at 0:15.
  • Zoe Nightshade has a different voice actor at 0:21.
