This is a sub-page of Proto:.flow.

Version 0.03 of .flow was created May 6, 2009, just two and a half months after the game's initial 0.00 release and 10 years before the final version.

General Differences

  • Most sound effects are placeholders from RPG Maker 2000's RTP.
  • Collecting an effect displays a normal text box with no sound or visual elements.
0.03-0.07 0.194
.flow-0.03 get effect.png .flow-get effect.png
  • Sabitsuki can't sit down when not equipped with an effect, something that would be added in 0.04.
  • The title screen is different from any known version, using inverted colors with strange cracks framing the game's name on the left side.

.flow-0.03 titlescreen.png .flow-0.19 titlescreen.png

Map Differences

Just 44 exist at this point, compared to 0.194's 296. Many areas are highly incomplete, with the note ........工事中でございます。......... (Under construction...) appearing in many locations. 4 effects are present, compared to 24 in final.

Sabitsuki's Room

0.03 0.194
.flow-0.03 real room.png .flow-real room.png
  • The Verdana does not exist yet, so there is no screen door.
  • Shinsoku Neko exists in a very rudimentary form, allowing you to enter and exit the game, but has no other functionality.
  • Interacting with the door lets you directly access the Debug Room while awake, rather then needing to modify files.
  • When beginning flow, the game uses placeholder Sabitsuki's for the effects. There's also a second border framing them.

Debug Room

0.03 0.194
.flow-0.03 Debug Room.png .flow-0.194 Debug Room.png

The Debug Room, as stated, is present and easily accessible, although it's lacking most of the features of the final room.

Going from left to right:

  • The sign above Sabitsuki's computer literally says 'Debug Room'. Interacting with the computer and chair is the same as the ones in the normal bedroom.
  • The doorway leads back into Sabitsuki's real-world room.
  • The icons at the top enable a few debug features. The Entrance icon changes which of the three default looks the Entrance will use when going to sleep, the Cat allows multiple options to change Sabitsuki's speed (from 'ordinary' to 'god speed'), and the dot enables saving at any time without the need for a bed.
  • The characters to the right all give and remove their individual effects. Note that in 0.03, the Watering Can effect obtained from the third character is instead the Ghost effect, as the Watering Can wasn't implemented until 0.06.

Music World

0.03 0.194
.flow-0.03 music world.png .flow-music world.png

Music World is mostly complete; however, it only connects to the Entrance and the Connecting Tile Path. Wastewater Lake doesn't exist yet, and the Connecting Tile Path itself dead-ends with a ........工事中でございます。......... due to the White Room not being implemented yet.

Beyond this, the main difference is a lack of NPCs in the northeastern part of the map, and minor graphical details being incorrect or missing.

Plant World

0.03 0.194
.flow-0.03 plant world.png .flow-plant world.png

Plant World overall only underwent minor changes, with some NPCs moving around and the big ghost graphics being touched up slightly. The biggest difference is that the ghost that normally gives the Watering Can effect instead gives the Ghost effect, with the ghost's sprite slightly modified to match.

Submarine World

0.03 0.194
.flow-0.03 MAP0022.png .flow-MAP0022.png

The Submarine World was being actively worked on at this point in development, so a lot of the maps are fairly rough around the edges. For this introduction area, the Submarine Village didn't exist yet, so the path to the top-right also doesn't exist. The graphics are also noticeably simpler and lacking in detail.

0.03 0.194
.flow-0.03 MAP0027.png .flow-MAP0027.png

The graphic for the TV is more basic, and the heart monitor is missing.

0.03 0.194
.flow-0.03 MAP0024.png .flow-MAP0024.png

The rocks at the bottom were moved up a tile.

0.03 0.194
.flow-0.03 MAP0025.png .flow-MAP0025.png

The area is overall smaller, and lacks the teleport to Starry Pier in the lower right.

0.03 0.194
.flow-0.03 MAP0026.png .flow-MAP0026.png

A path through the rock was put in the middle, most likely for convenience.

0.03 0.194
.flow-0.03 MAP0037.png .flow-MAP0037.png

There used to be graffiti of Sabitsuki's face, but this was later changed to be more smudged instead. After this point, the maze ends with another ........工事中でございます。........., since the Prison wasn't implemented yet.

Utility Pole World

0.03-0.07 0.194
.flow-early utility pole world orb.png .flow-utility pole world orb.png

Identical except for one small difference: an orb in the corner was mistakenly placed where a pole is located. This was corrected some time after 0.07.

Apartments

  • The Iron Pipe doesn't work on the eye or slime in here.
0.03 0.194
.flow-0.03 MAP0016.png .flow-MAP0016.png
  • The elevator uses a different graphic, and doesn't appear to work yet.
0.03 0.194
.flow-0.03 MAP0039.png .flow-MAP0039.png
  • There's three doors present instead of two, with two of the apartments being accessible instead of just one. Curiously, the door at the very end looks identical to Madotsuki's door in Yume Nikki, which was changed later.
0.03 0.194
.flow-0.03 MAP0042.png .flow-MAP0042.png
  • Snow World doesn't exist yet, so the NPC that normally exists in Plant Labyrinth is present in one of the apartments instead.
.flow-0.03 MAP0041.png

This second apartment, which doesn't have any events, was later overwritten with the staircase leading to the School.

Dysmorphic World

  • The warp to the sub-area via two arms is not present, due to the Footprint Path and its subsequent warps not being implemented yet.

Graphical Differences

  • The staircase leading to the Apartments uses a slightly different graphic, appearing less rusted.
0.03 0.194
.flow-0.03 Apartment Stairs.png .flow-Apartment Stairs.png
  • Sabitsuki's computer mouse is on the right-hand side rather then the left-hand side.
  • All of Sabitsuki's sprites have a minor difference of one extra pixel at the collar of her shirt in her left/right-facing poses.
  • The Mono Eye effect has a different graphic, possibly a remnant of it being the Cyclops effect back in 0.02.
0.03 0.194
.flow-0.03 Mono Eye.png .flow-0.03 Mono Eye pinch.png .flow-Mono Eye.png .flow-Mono Eye pinch.png
  • The NPC who occupies the Apartments later had their graphics touched up, adding much more detail to the hair and hat.
0.03 0.194
.flow-0.03 Plant Generic NPC.png .flow-Plant Generic NPC.png
  • There's only one faceset portrait in this version, using a unique border akin to static.
0.03 0.194
.flow-0.03 face.png .flow-face.png
  • The instructions for the minigame are formatted slightly differently.
0.03 0.194

Thumbs.db Files

As the earliest available version, the thumbs.db files offer the clearest look of earlier graphical material. Some of these files predate the release of 0.00.
