Mafia Town Rocks

Many of the rocks in the Prototype builds have different appearances and designs, some of them quite drastic. Most of the design changes stem from the removal of the dirt mountain that Mafia Town was originally built on.

Starting off with a rock model that is unique to prerelease builds prior to the Speedrun builds. These rocks were used on one of the islands offshore from Mafia Town that had a little cave on it. As this cave was removed for the final game, so too went these rocks. Completely. Dated June 23 2013.

This is one of the rocks that didn't change all that much. The design stayed roughly the same to the final version. The Alpha and Beta version has quite a few more vertices than the final: 785 vs 467.

The appearance changed quite a bit, especially between the Alpha and Beta version and the final. The Alpha version is slightly lower-poly than the final, but has more vertices: 169 vs 107.

The design stayed somewhat the same, but several rocks got adjusted a lot. The Alpha version has quite a few more vertices than the final: 537 vs 268.

The design for this rock model completely changed. The Alpha version has quite a few more vertices than the final: 571 vs 339.

The shape of the rock structure stayed mostly the same, but received quite a few tweaks here and there for the Alpha version. The Alpha and Beta version has more vertices than the final: 399 vs 238.

The design in the Prototypes is completely different. The Alpha/Beta version has a lot more vertices: 942 vs 535.

Another total design change. The Alpha/Beta version has a lot more vertices: 969 vs 569.

Several adjustments were made to a few of the rocks across all three versions. The Alpha/Beta version has quite a few more vertices than the final: 422 vs 228.

The Prototype design is similar to the later designs. The Alpha version has quite a few more vertices than the final: 745 vs 388.

The Prototype design is completely different. Differences between the Alpha/Beta version and the final version are mostly unknown, aside from some minor normals being adjusted. The date for the final version is not incorrect; it seems that this model was left out of a repository update for the game for the Alpha and Beta builds, and thus an earlier version of its model was included in those builds instead. The mistake was corrected for the final game, and the final model is the model that was intended to be used in the early builds. A similar situation happened with a fence texture in Alpine Skyline.

The Prototype design is completely different. The Alpha version has more vertices than the final: 356 vs 212. Almost all of the rocks were slightly adjusted for the final version.

The Prototype design is almost completely different. The rocks on the right side were removed for the Alpha version and the left side was greatly expanded upon. The Alpha version has more vertices than the final: 339 vs 209. Almost all of the rocks were slightly adjusted for the final version.

The Prototype design is very similar to the later versions, and has a gap between the rocks that was filled in for the Alpha builds. The Alpha version has quite a few more vertices than the final: 243 vs 159.

The Prototype design is very similar to the later versions. The Alpha version has quite a few more vertices than the final: 381 vs 239.
