This page details one or more prototype versions of Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts.

In late 2011/early 2012, executable files for an extremely early prototype of Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, back when it was being referred to as "Banjo X", were discovered by PtoPOnline on an Xbox development kit. The files are dated June 2004, placing it at the very beginning of development, likely when it was still being developed as a remake of the original N64 game.

The files are unfortunately missing the assets necessary to actually run the prototype; attempting to do so will display a black error screen. However, the fact the executables boot at all suggests that some work had been done at this point, and hackers were able to crack them open and find some leftovers.

To do:
  • Upload the executable files.
  • The strings are probably formatted/ordered incorrectly. I was just going off PToPOnline's blog post about the prototype.
  • See if there's anything else lurking under the surface.
  • Should this be moved to a development page? per the request of the Prerelease page.

Mumbo Jumbo Model

Among the leftovers is an early version of Mumbo Jumbo's model. The model closely resembles his design from Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie rather than his final Nuts & Bolts design, suggesting that the characters were still using their classic designs at this point in development.

  • Abilities and items referenced include Springy Shoes, Rocket Sneakers, Metal Feathers, Aviator Goggles, Invisibility Chocolates, Big Feathers, Bag of Eggs, and Diamond Beak.
  • Characters referenced include Banjo, Mumbo Jumbo, Klungo, Jinjo, Humba Wumba, Gruntilda, and an unknown character named "Cameron".
