Walken is a prototype version of Ken's Labyrinth, dating to September 1992. At this point, the basic gameplay has been implemented, but it's pretty unrefined.

General Differences

  • No cheat mode.
  • No high score tables and no score tracking.
  • Completing a level just sends you straight to the next one. Clearing the last level dumps you back in the DOS command prompt.
  • Warping is not present.
  • Compass is not implemented.
  • The tangent calculation table has twice as many entries in this build.
  • No handlers for XMS extended memory.
  • The in-game music is a rendition of "It's A Small World (After All)".

Graphical Differences

Most of the sprites are rough drafts of what they would be in later versions.

Walken Ken's Labyrinth
Ow, my bit depth! Worthy of a high school yearbook.

The portrait of Ken Silverman is of a lower bit depth than the final game.

Walken Ken's Labyrinth
Floating eye thing? Oh, it's got a man's face on it.

The extra life sprite is more basic, with the final game including a face of (presumably) the player character.

How can I go if this is in the way? Labyrinth Sweet Labyrinth.

The rectangular "Welcome" sign is an octagonal "GO" sign in this build.
