This article is a work in progress.
...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes.

General Differences

  • The Quest Log is opened by pressing the Select Button. In previous games, this button would bring up the Good Grief! menu. In the final version, Good Grief! was moved to the pause menu and the Quest Log was remapped to the Triangle Button, with Select being disabled entirely.
    • Likely due to an oversight, this allows the Quest Log to be opened anywhere, even in levels where it is normally disabled.
  • While climbing on a climbable surface, there is a roughly one second period after jumping where the player cannot re-attach themselves to the surface they jumped off of.
  • OddSock has different controls to the final game.
    • By default, his running and jumping speed is about the same as Sackboy's. By holding the R1 Button his running speed and jump height are increased.
  • All character archetypes can use any powerup, including custom powerups. However, since none of the non-Sackboy characters have their own powerup models (they default to Sackboy's), equipping them will result in their models glitching out. In later prototypes only the Popit Powerup can be used by multiple characters, and in the final game only Sackboy can use powerups.
    • Attempting to equip the Paintinator as OddSock crashes the game.

Create Mode Differences

  • Backgrounds that loop indefinitely require Dynamic Thermometer to be enabled in order to use them, prompting the user to turn it on if it isn't already. If the user declines to turn it on, the game will revert to whatever the previous background was. In the final game, all backgrounds can be used freely, regardless of whether or not the Dynamic Thermometer is enabled.
  • Despite using Small Toggle's physics Papal Mache and Zom Zom are listed as separate characters in the Sackbot Meshes section of the Sackbot's tweak menu. In the final game, they were changed into costumes that Small Toggle can wear.
  • Unless the debug option Enable Pusher and Moon Adventures' is enabled, Sackpocket Items, Quests and custom characters can only be created and managed in levels contained inside an Adventure.
  • The Level Link's tweak menu is broken, crashing the game if it is opened. Thankfully, this was fixed for the full release.
    • As a side-effect, attempting to tweak Scoreboards also crashes the game since they allow creators to specify a level to send players to once activated.
  • The Sound Object which houses all of the game's sound effects has not yet been implemented, with all of the sound effects being accessed the same way as in LittleBigPlanet 2.
