General Differences

  • Compiled a week before the final build.
  • Game has version "1.00", when release has "1.02".
  • Disc marked with date of August 19, when build was compiled at August 16.
  • Prototype lacks some files from final version, such as Testbed folder (locates in tracks directory) and all language files from Text folder except text.eng.
  • Only a few files different from final version.
  • Files Hot Pursuit.ini and Championship.ini (locates in frontend directory) have incorrect value in "m_reward[1]" for [event22] at 0x0000364A. Final version have values "15000" instead of "1500" from prototype. Same misspell also affects their copies from inis.viv. In-game these changes affects value of reward for 2nd place in events "Lamborghini Murciélago Delivery" and "Ferrari Time Trial".
  • The file text.eng from prototype had 2 differences. The string:
A Driver Profile with that name was not found on the memory unit.

at 0x0000CA50 was shortened to

A Driver Profile with that name was not found.

in final version at 0x0000CA54. Also final version got new string at 0x0000E5C0:

Any unsaved changes to the current Driver Profile will be lost.  Continue?
  • The file xbx.scn.controls from GUI.viv (locates in frontend/gui directory) at 0x000000CD in prototype uses string GUI.mText=kTxtController instead of GUI.mText=kTxtPlayer in final version.
  • The file inis.viv in prototype contains files location.ini and spchbnks.ini also for french and german languages (final inis.viv contains versions only for English, those locates in audio/speech/english directory), but these configs just copies of English versions.
  • Some differences also seen in default.xbe. From offset 0x00000228 to 0x00000247 this file have "TEST" string, that repeats 8 times.
