Proto:Super Monkey Ball 2
This page details one or more prototype versions of Super Monkey Ball 2.
To do: There appears to be a test level in addition to a few other extra levels on the disc. There are some references to build dates on the disc as well. |
A playable demo of Super Monkey Ball 2 is found on the GameCube Interactive Multi-Game Demo Disc from July 2002. There are several differences between the retail game and the demo.

Graphical Differences
Dole Branding
There appears to be no references to Dole anywhere in this demo. The title screen is missing information about Dole as a result, and the bananas in the game do not have any Dole branding on them.

Music Differences
Boiling Pot
The music for the Boiling Pot world differs from the music found in the final game. There is more emphasis on one of the synth instruments in this version - the final version is mixed slightly differently.
Boiling Pot - Demo Version
Ambience
To do: Rip these. |
Unlike the final version of the game, certain worlds have continuous ambient noise that plays while in the world. The noises tend to fit the theme of the world - rumbling noises inside the volcano, mechanical sounds inside the factory world, and the sound of a washing machine in... the washing machine world. These ambient sounds play during story mode cutscenes in the final game, but not during gameplay.
Text Differences
Stage Names
Although only 10 stages are normally accessible (and only have models on the disc), the names of all the stages in the game are stored in a string file, and are also accessible when attempting to access the stages through the debug menu stage selector. There are several differences, which include spelling fixes and improvements to awkward wording, among other changes.
