This is a sub-page of Proto:WWF No Mercy.

A prototype in a very early state. As its name suggests, this build is locked into a demo mode; only exhibition matches can be played. The game boots directly to the main menu, there isn't yet a title screen, company logos, or opening scene.

Hmmm...
To do:
See if the game can be unlocked from demo mode.
Careful, you'll lose an eye.
This page or section needs more images.
There's a whole lotta words here, but not enough pictures. Please fix this.

Main Menu

  • The layout of the menus is based on WrestleMania 2000. It also still uses that game's music, likely as a placeholder.
  • The Smackdown Mall description mentions the cancelled GBC game.
  • The Royal Rumble description says matches can have up to 30 entrants. The final allows up to 40 entrants.
  • Global Options is misspelled Grobal Options. The final release shortens it to simply Options.

Wrestlers

  • Only six wrestlers are available. The Rock, Triple H, Chris Benoit, Kurt Angle, Tazz and Rikishi. They have their music, but no menu portraits or Titantron videos. Most of them look a little different from the final release (such as Angle having larger hair).
  • There are no alternate attires yet. Each wrestler has the same costume in all four slots.
  • Ring entrances remain full length, albeit with some visual artifacts and odd camera angles.
  • Benoit uses The Radicalz theme instead of his own.
  • Angle features his blue costume in this build. It became a secondary attire in the final.
  • Rikishi is referred to as Rikishi Phatu. This variation of his name appears briefly in the final game's Titantron.

Arena

  • Only the Smackdown arena is available. It looks a bit different.
  • There are two announce tables (the final game has just one) but they can't be climbed or interacted with in any meaningful way. Humorously however, as the tables are background objects considered part of the audience area, wrestlers can retrieve weapons from them (or even out of thin air from the gap between the tables!).
  • It seems only possible to travel halfway up the entrance ramp. You can't yet visit the stage area, or backstage

Gameplay

  • Mostly identical to WrestleMania 2000. (no ground specials, however weapons can be picked back up).
  • There is a singular ladder piece as a weapon, instead of a regular one. Cannot be climbed.
  • The chair weapon is a different color.
  • The option for the animated referee remains visible, but it's grayed out and can't be selected. It was removed from the final.
  • The Attitude meters still look like WrestleMania 2000 (the final No Mercy has wrestler name labels, in place of the word "attitude").

Other

  • The cartridge features SRAM for saved data, also like WrestleMania 2000. The final release was changed to larger (and in some copies, notoriously unstable) flash memory.
