Get this: a racing game starring a seven-year-old YouTuber and his fictional buddies that gets a physical release on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Switch priced at $30. Sounds like a joke, right?

Nope, this is Race with Ryan, another Mario Kart wannabe that looks more on par with Garfield Kart. It's also a reskin of Xenon Racer, which itself was a reskin of All-Star Fruit Racing. Sound familiar?

Hmmm...
To do:
There's likely tons more leftovers of Xenon Racer and All-Star Fruit Racing left to find. The research done here was done on the earliest Steam manifest (pushed out on 2019-11-01, but the EXE date is 2019-09-27). Others have some extra stuff, such as unused TXT files in the manifest pushed on 2020-05-13 (EXE date 2020-04-06).

Unused Graphics

The directory RaceWithRyan\Content\Developers\Simone\Resources contains several unused graphics. "Simone" refers to Simone Marrocco, who is listed as Tech Artist in the game's credits and had left 3DClouds in March 2019.

Alternative Ryan Face

Ryan Face.png

By far the most notable piece of unused content in the game is RyanFace_D.uasset. It's identical to the texture used in-game for Ryan's facial expressions, but the excited emotion is swapped out for a stitch-face "creepy" variant. It's pretty clear this was a developer in-joke and not at all meant to be used

Alpha Mask

Ryans_Mask__1_.uasset is an alpha mask texture, utilising the greeen and red channels.

Early Car Texture

T_CH_01_V11_phong1_D__1_.uasset is an early mockup of the textures for Ryan's car.

T_CH_01_V11_phong1_N__2_.uasset is the mapping of normals for the texture above.

BUG_Placeholder.uasset in RaceWithRyan\Content\UI\Menu\Textures is a simple placeholder image.

Xenon Racer Leftovers

There are quite a bunch of leftovers from Xenon Racer, another title published by 3DClouds earlier that same year.

RaceWithRyan\Content\UI\Menu\Textures\XenonRacer has logos and buttons.

This texture seems to indicate it's a normalmap, judging by the _N suffix at the end.

Intro Text

In the IntroRace sub-directory for XenonRacer, there are 7 graphics that are meant for the Xenon Racer intros.

Flags

RaceWithRyan\Content\UI\Menu\Textures\Flags contains a bunch of flags. It also has three sub-directories called 128, 256, and 512 containing slightly slanted variations of the flags, all being identical except for their size being different, as indicated by the folder names.

Normal

Slanted

Garage Icons

RaceWithRyan\Content\UI\Menu\Textures\Garage_Icons\UI_Customization has three sub-directories named Icon_32, Icon_64, and Icon_128. The contents are identical again, except for their resolution.

Vehicle Damage

RaceWithRyan\Content\UI\InGame_HUD\Textures\Damage_Icons has icons for the damage of your vehicle used in none other than Xenon Racer.

Speedometers

There are speedometer texture leftovers found in RaceWithRyan\Content\UI\InGame_HUD\RaceHUD\RaceHUDElements\Speedometers\Textures. Each speedometer type has 4 separate textures - On, Off, Speed, and Speedometer which combines the previous 3 graphics together in one, with the only exception being NH1 for whatever reason.

On, Off, Speed Textures

Speedometer Textures

Speedometer Prototypes

And in RaceWithRyan\Content\UI\InGame_HUD\Speedometer_Prototypes there are even more speedometer textures!

Track Maps

In RaceWithRyan\Content\UI\InGame_HUD\Textures\TrackMaps, there are 20 leftover track maps, and in the PNG sub-directory there are 40 more graphics, this time with flags and a black background. All stored in .uasset containers as BGRA-8888 format textures, despite what the PNG folder name implies.

Without Flags

With Flags

With a Glow

And going back just one directory, there is one more Map_001.uasset file that has the Miami map texture, but with a glow around it.

Rear View Vehicle Models

RaceWithRyan\Content\UI\InGame_HUD\Rearview_Vehicles contains low polygon models of various vehicles meant to be seen in the rear view mirror. In, you guessed it - Xenon Racer, of course!

All-Star Fruit Racing Leftovers

Beyond the tons of Xenon Racer leftovers, there's even a few more unused assets from an even earlier 3DClouds game - All-Star Fruit Racing.

Speedometer

Getting back in RaceWithRyan\Content\UI\InGame_HUD\RaceHUD\RaceHUDElements\Speedometers\Textures, there are a few more speedometer textures meant for this game instead.
