Radar Mission is a naval-themed strategy game featuring two games in one. Game A is Nintendo's jazzed-up take on Battleship, while Game B is an action game where the player has to shoot down enemy submarines using a radar system.

Unused Grid

By changing RAM address FF8D to 1F on Game A's setup menu, the player can start a game with a 14x14 grid. The game grid normally maxes out at 12x12.

The game can't quite handle a grid this large, though:

  • On the arrange screen, boats will be placed one space down and to the left of the player's cursor. Additionally, moving a boat will sometimes split it in half.
  • The radar screen will glitch out as soon as the line sweeps across the screen.
  • The enemy's targeting screen will not properly display boat sprites if they're outside of the normal maximum 12x12 grid.

Two of the plane designs were altered for the international version, losing their resemblance to World War II-era Japanese fighter planes.
