Raw Danger is the sequel to Disaster Report. While typically referred to as a survival horror game, it's much more of a survival game.

The player takes control of up to six protagonists who find themselves in a crumbling city, all while making decisions which affect the other protagonists.

Will you get out alive or get dragged under?

Hmmm...
To do:
The two demos.

Unused Items
Some are used as NPC attachment models but have English names/descriptions, while others never made it into the game at all.

Unused Menu Options

If 2048FAFC is changed to 04 while on the tutorial menu, the player can scroll down and select two additional options:

  • "Survival Point" - the game attempts to load something, but fails.
  • "Deal with the Current" - sends the player back to the title screen.

If 20753CE8 is changed to 249, 251, 253, or 255 while on the character select menu (for a free game), the player selected says "Sierra Young", suggesting that Sierra Young may have been a playable character at one point. When this option is selected, the game will attempt to load something but fail.

Debug Models

Setting 203A6524 to 3 will enable debug models, which are used to mark water, collision, event triggers, and more.

Cut Features/Locations

There are many references to cut features in memory and in SLUS_215.01. Text such as "This is Del Ray High School" can be accessed through cheating on the GPS menu and also accompany locations on the GPS.

Debug Text

Present in SLUS_215.01. It's currently unknown whether any sort of debug menus are accessible.

Alternatively, it is possible that this text is not used for debugging, but instead consists of script names.

Development Text

A number of placeholder text and development strings that are not normally able to be seen are present in the game, translated into English. Many examples of this exist on the unused items page.

Tentative Game Result Text

IremRD-EndingPatternUnused.png

Achieving a game ending in an abnormal fashion will result in the player achieving a "(Tentative): Ending Pattern Unknown" ending with "Unknown" jewelries.

Unused Japanese Text

Present in SLUS_215.01, these are possibly strings used for debugging.

"料理の進行状態が異常です" "The food prep is going disastrously."
"本多から資料を受け取った" "Received documents from Briggs."

Unused Areas

Hmmm...
To do:
Check this out in the PAL release.

In Isaac Schiller's chapter, a cut area and taxi repair shop can be accessed. Along with NPC dialogue and a parking spot in this area, there is also a small cutscene involving Mayor Goldstein.

This area is not blocked off in the Japanese version, where the height of the waterplane of this area is significantly lower than that of the US release. Since this area is completely translated, it is currently unknown if this area was intentionally or unintentionally blocked.

Regional Differences

As with its predecessor, characters with black hair in the Japanese version were changed to have blonde hair in the international versions in an attempt to appeal to a western audience, even though these characters still have an Asian appearance as their models remain untouched. Also, the black-to-blonde hair changes are inconsistent, such as in the photo flashback scenes. Further, the Mayor has black hair in propaganda posters and while on TV.

The international versions changed Tomisaka City to Del Ray City, as well as Haneshiro River to Hudson River.

In the Japanese version, NPCs voice the names of the protagonists, while this is not the case in the international versions.

Some textures in the international versions of the game, particularly on road signs and such, may appear corrupted. This appears to be a translation error, as these textures are intact in the Japanese version.

In Isaac Schiller's chapter, there is an inaccessible area in the Downtown Station area in the international versions, but is accessible in the Japanese version.

The Japanese version had an advertising deal with Columbia products, and as such some items can be seen mentioning Columbia Sportswear equipment. The Columbia backpack icon is still on the international versions of the backpack (not pictured below).

The PAL version targets 30FPS, while the US and Japanese ones target 20FPS. While most mechanics in both the US and PAL versions behave properly, some did not transition between framerate targets perfectly. For example, clinging and moving along objects in the PAL version is 2/3rds as fast as in the NTSC-U version due to a bug where the player's movement speed has 2× effect on cling speed (e.g. doubling player speed would cause 4× clinging speed).

Debug Menus

Hmmm...
To do:
Document all debug menus and pretty this section up, explain practical ways of accessing these menus (if any).

Map Select

Can be accessed by executing function 0x00188110 in the Japanese version.

  • D-Pad Up/Down - decreases/increases the Area.
  • D-Pad Left/Right - decreases/increases the Map.
  • L1/R1 - decreases/increases the Gate (Checkpoint).
  • Circle - loads the Area/Map/Gate selected.
