This article is a work in progress.
...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes.
So very stubbly.
This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion.
Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article?

Run 3 responds to the long-asked question of why these gray blobs are running through an endless stream of colorful corridors in space.

Not with an answer, mind you. But it responds nonetheless.

Unused Graphics

Run3-DragonBonesTile.png

The crumbling tile texture, notably a much earlier version of it, with a graphic of a winking green dragon edited on top. As the file name suggests, the dragon was the logo to DragonBones.

When asked about it, the developer explained, "That was an in-joke at Kongregate. People would hide that icon on other people's desks, under coffee mugs, behind doors, etc. The most memorable case was sticking it to the bottom of someone's mouse. The mouse wasn't working, and the person flipped it over to investigate and got an eyeful of that thing. I put it in the game, but it only showed up for people in on the joke".

As mentioned, this image replaces the original crumbling tile texture in every version of Run 3 - but only when signed into one of a select few accounts.

Run3-StudentJumpingForJoy.png Run3-StudentExcited.png

Run3-StudentHappy.png Run3-StudentReading.png Run3-StudentAngry.png Run3-StudentThinkingHard.png Run3-StudentThinking.png Run3-StudentSpeaking.png

Several unused graphics of the Student with different expressions or doing different things. The strange part about them is that they are all separate graphics instead of being integrated within a spritesheet.

Run3-EarlyConveyorTile.png

An early version of the conveyor tile.

Run3-ImportButton.png

A removed button from the level editor. It seems it was once possible to import level files until the function was scrapped.

Removed Cutscenes

Found in the files of earlier versions are a few unused cutscenes. Since most cutscenes in earlier versions had pre-rendered level backgrounds whereas later versions took place in realtime in the actual tunnels, it's hard to say where most of them took place.

img_cutscene_map

Run3-RunnerChildMapCutscene.png

This cutscene with the Runner and the Child could have been remade into Socratic Method in later versions of the game because of the way the Runner is showing her map to the Child. Note the larger size of the Runner's map.

img_cutscene_cheating

Run3-Cheating.png

While not unused, this cutscene was overlooked by many players and the final version of the cutscene wasn't discovered for quite a while. It can be activated by completing Level B-4 as the Skater without jumping. This variant seems to be an earlier version with the Runner instead of the Child.

img_cutscene_classes

Run3-Physicsdiscussion.png

A cutscene about the Student talking to the Runner about taking the best physics courses she took in school. No other cutscene in later versions matches this.

img_cutscene_caught and img_cutscene_caught2

Run3-Runnertuggedantennae.png
Run3-EarlyInsanity.png

The first two frames of a cutscene where the Runner accidentally bumps into the Angel... or something. It possibly could have been replaced by Insanity in later versions.

Hidden Messages

Several hidden developer messages from Player_03 can be accessed by attempting to add more hotkeys in the level editor.

I think that's enough, don't you?
You've used all ten hotkeys!
Could you simplify your level design rather than adding more tiles?
You can make lot's of interesting things with just two or three tiles, this is more than enough.
By the way, if you accidentally clicked on the wrong tile, just reload the editor to get of it.
No but seriously, you get nine tiles plus the eraser, and that's it.
Clicking more won't make me change my mind.
You're just clicking to see what else I say, aren't you?
Well...
Did you know? This game now has a wiki! Check it out on run.wikia.com
The wiki editors have been doing a great job uncovering the secrets of the game, but they could always use more help.
Ok, that's all. Get back to building that level!

Anti-Hotlinking

There is a comprehensive check in the code that encrypts the URL of the website hosting the game, then compares the hash to a list of approved hashes. Should the website not match any of them, the following "anti-hotlinking" measures will be activated:

Adobe Flash

On Start-Up:

  • A 4.13% chance of your save getting completely wiped.

In Explore Mode:

  • The final level of every tunnel will not load.
  • Every remaining level will not have any Crumbling Tiles.
  • You will be forced to play as the Runner.

HTML5

On Start-Up:

  • A 4.13% chance of your save getting replaced with a back-up.
  • A 61.2% chance of every on-screen sprite getting removed after 1,025 seconds (~17 minutes).

In addition, websites can be blacklisted. In that scenario, the game window will be replaced with a blank black background. And in big white text, "Error: [URL] is not allowed to host this version of this game." This is unused in the latest versions of Flash Run 3.
