Saints Row (2006)/Unused Audio

From The Cutting Room Floor

This is a sub-page of Saints Row (2006).

Hmmm...
To do:
*Still a lot more to upload and document. For unmarked voice clips in foobar2000, open the xsb file in notepad and find which is which.
  • Check for any more unused sounds.
  • Are the "AMB_EXT_DIA_(District)" sounds used outside of buildings?
This cactus is UNDER CONSTRUCTION
This article is a work in progress.
...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes.

For an average-sized game, there are hundreds of unused audio clips outside of missions...but not as much as Bully.

Unused Newscasts?

Scrapped William Sharp & Associates Radio Advertisement

Two lines of dialogue relating to a scrapped "William Sharp Associates" radio advertisement stored in VOC_SP files. Was possibly scrapped to avoid conflicting with his death in "No Time to Mourn", but probably considered to be removed after his death in normal gameplay, much like The Feed Dogs' comercial no longer playing after their death in "Thank You and Goodnight!" in Saints Row 2.

Practicing law is a lot like playing poker; if you wanna be successful, you gotta read people, know when to bluff, and most importantly, you willing to stack the deck. Hi, I'm William Sharp and I've been representing Stilwater's upper middle class for the past twenty years. Whether you've been indicted for tax fraud, your husband fell down a flight of stairs or your nephew got picked up on his third condom-armed robbery, we here at William Sharp & Associates do whatever it takes to get you off the hook and back in business. So, if you have a problem, and decent credit, give us a call and find out what William Sharp & Associates can do for you.

Paid for by Citizens For Hughes, William Sharp, president.

Early Marshal Winslow Radio Advertisement

A slightly earlier version of the two radio advertisements also stored in the VOC_SP files without music playing and the "Paid for by the people to re-elect Marshal Winslow" message at the end of the first two clips.

Early Final
Hello Stilwater. This is your mayor, Marshall Winslow. We've come a long way since you chose to make me your mayor, and in the past two years we've made great strides towards building a city we can all be proud of. Just look at the old Red Light District: thanks to our free health screening and birth control programs, our hospitals are reporting a 40% drop in venereal diseases over the last three months. Likewise, I moved to provide affordable public transportation to less fortunate districts: not only are our trains and buses going where they're needed most, they're finally running on time. Stilwater doesn't need a quick fix, it needs a chance to heal, and healing takes time. My administration is working to make Stilwater safer and more prosperous for everybody. Let's do the right thing and stay the course. I hope you're considering giving me your support in this upcoming election. Together, you and I can continue to create a better city for our neighbors and ourselves.

Early Final
Hello Stilwater. This is Marshall Winslow - your mayor. Like you, I'm deeply concerned about the problem of violent crime in our streets and I have dedicated this administration to solving the problem. Now, Alderman Hughes believes the best way to fight violence is with more violence, turning our police force into an urban army. But crime is nothing new; why, when I was growing up in Stilwater, we had more than our share of gunplay and robbery. The threat of prison didn't deter street-toughs back then, and it doesn't now. My initiative to revitalize poor or urban areas, however, holds a real promise. With local rehabilitation and education programs, our young people are getting the opportunity to live up to their full potential, and to resist turning to drugs, pimping, and vandalism to get by. Hughes says our children are a lost cause, but as your mayor, I refuse to give up hope. I hope you'll consider giving me your support in this upcoming election. Together, you and I can continue to build a better future for our young people and ourselves.

Strangely, the third one is titled WINSLOW_SPE_STATUERESPONSE_1, implying that it was supposed to be played after 3rd Street Vice Kings.

Early Final
Hello Stilwater. This is your mayor, Marshall Winslow. As you might have heard, the statue of Alderman Hughes, known as The Pride of Stilwater, was recently vandalized in a very ambitious way. Now, I understand that this wasn't the most popular sculpture on display in our fair city, and that it's had its share of critics... people will always have strong feelings about public artwork and that's just the way it is... regardless, we're a great city and we deserve to have equally great works of art everyone can enjoy. I ensure you that The Pride of Stilwater will be replaced - I've already asked the park's commissioner to begin speaking to noted artists, and will make sure the next sculpture to grace our community will be more representative of you, the people who call this city home.

Early Eye For An Eye Radio Advertisement

There is an earlier take of the Eye For An Eye radio advertisement without music playing in the background, stored in the VOC_SP files rather than the radio files.

Early Final

There is also a second earlier take, which is actually the second line in the second variant of the commercial except cut off.

Unused Sounds

Animation

ANI_GML1_PLAYGAMES01_1

Unused sound intended for any of the gang members playing video games with the controller. It would later be used in Saints Row 2.

ANI_PML_PISSONWALL01

Unused three separate sound files of an NPC taking a leak on a wall, likely cut for being too suggestive.

ANI_GML1_SPRAYPAINT01_2

An alternative, possibly earlier sound for spraying graffiti tags, sounding similar to the one in Saints Row 2.

Vehicle SFX

An unused siren intended for the Ambulance, final uses FIRETRK_SIREN_LOOP. Likely changed for sounding too similar to the Five-O.

Other_Streaming

SFX_ALARM_2

An alternate-sounding alarm that goes unused in the final. All shops share the same SFX_ALARM_1 sound file.

SFX_ALARM_3

Another unused alarm sound. Would be reused in Saints Row 2 during the "Jailbreak" mission.

SFX_ALARM_4

Yet another unused alarm sound.

SFX_ALARM_5

Another unused alarm sound.

SFX_DOOR_ELEVATOR_CLOSE_1

There are no interactable elevators in free-roam, just teleportation points. "SFX_DOOR_ELEVATOR_OPEN_1" is used in the "Staying Healthy" cutscene even though it's part of the cutscene SFX file.

SFX_TRAIN_ENGINE_2

An alternate sound for the train that could be tied to the scrapped regular trains than just the El Train? "SFX_TRAIN_ENGINE_3" is used as the train during the "Stuffing The Ballot" mission.

AMB_EXT_BOAT_HORN

Four unused distant boat sounds. AMB_EXT_BOAT_HORN_4 is used in the "Taking It To The Edge" cutscene despite being stored separately in a cutscene file.

AMB_EXT_VEH_TRAIN_ANNC

Ambients

There are lots of ambient sounds and music that are never played in certain districts of Stilwater. Many of them have songs that don't appear in the final game, nor are even credited in the credits!

AMB_EXT_DIA_WRSUB

AMB_EXT_DIA_PROJECT

AMB_SAS_0054_0301

Unused music that was probably supposed to play in a "salsa lessons" building? The song is called "Quiero Volver A" by Paco De Antequera.

AMB_SAS_0075_00401

Another unused song, strangely reminiscent of Hungarian music from 105.0 The World in Saints Row 2. The song is called "Fast Czardas" by Trad. & Arr. Laszlo Borteri and Niko Radic.

AMB_SAS_0080_00501

Unused music likely intended to play in an Indian restaurant, judging from the sound. The song is called "Haishaba (A)" by Lekha Rathnakumar and Veilumuth Chitralekha.

AMB_KOS_0129_00101/00301

Two different Oriental-sounding songs that were likely meant to be played from restaurants? The songs are called Souk Dance by APM Dancers and Sunny Market by Djamal Aladin.
