Hmmm...
To do:
  • Unused music
  • Some out of bounds stuff counts as unused content
  • PC port has a debug level select which can be activated with patches, does it exist in any other ports?

Silent Hill 2 is the second installment in the survival horror video game series.

Mini Map

Remember when YT had a little indifferent face when a video went down? TCRF remembers.
This page or section has one or more broken YouTube links.

A hidden mini map can be activated by a set of complex button combinations. First, you must have completed the Dog Ending. After you have completed the Dog Ending, make sure your controller type is set to 2 if you are playing on the international versions of the game. Finally, press the following buttons while you have control over your character: Start + L2 + Square + L3. You may need to first enter the inventory menu screen, exit, and while exiting hold Start button and then input the rest of the button sequence.

The mini map can also be activated via the following raw codes (02, 03, 04 values enable different versions of the map):

Unused Map

An unused version of the Brookhaven Hospital exists within the game. Most notably, this has no enemies or music. It also has various different camera angles compared to its used counterpart and a glitched box puzzle. This map was shown at the Tokyo Game Show 2001 and likely E3 Expo of that year. This map is internally named tgs_trial. Apply the below code for the USA Greatest Hits version of the game to appear here. Start from New Game or Load Game then hold R3 button while the screen is fading out to appear here.

A graphic from the trial version of the game also remains in the final versions of the game.

Version Differences

Hmmm...
To do:
  • Expand to cover differences in regional versions of the original game, if any.
  • European version has timing bugs.
  • The director's cut versions supposedly have increased draw distance, different 10 Star rank requirements, several bug fixes and some other alterations.

A Director's Cut was released on PS2 in 2002 for Japan and North America and 2003 for Europe. The Japanese PS2 version was subtitled "Saigo no Uta" (lit. "The Last Song"), while the European version was titled "Director's Cut". The US version was simply released as a Greatest Hits title with no subtitle. This re-release basically adds the additional content from the Xbox version.

  • The extra scenario, "Born from a Wish", was added.
  • An extra ending, the series staple UFO ending, was added.
  • New weapons and items were added.
  • The US Director's Cut version is playable in English, Japanese, French, Italian, German and Spanish, as opposed to the original US version's English and Japanese.

It should be noted that the back cover of the US version mentions that there are "enhanced graphics and lighting effects", but the graphics are said to be the same as the original PS2 version.
