Cheat Codes

In the OPTIONS menu, the game registers the button inputs that you press. Pressing the correct button sequence will trigger either the Level Select or Play Credits.

Notes:

  • The Level Select doesn't work on REV0 USA version of Sonic Spinball.
  • There is a bug where if you change the Flipper Controls from the default selection (A_LEFT | B_RIGHT | C_ALL), exit the OPTIONS menu and return to press the button combinations, the cheat codes will also be remapped as well.

Level Select

In the OPTIONS menu, press the following:

A ↓ B ↓ C ↓ A B ↑ A C ↑ B C ↑

A sound effect will confirm if correct buttons were pressed. Now go back to the title screen and hold the required button:

  • A for Level 2 - Lava Powerhouse
  • B for Level 3 - The Machine
  • C for Level 4 - Showdown

While holding the required button, press Start to begin on that level.

Play Credits

In the OPTIONS menu, press the following:

C ↑ B ↑ A ↑ C B ↓ C A ↓ B A ↓

A sound effect will confirm if the correct buttons were pressed. The Credits will automatically start playing.

Regional Differences

Japanese Version

Most of the sound effects are different in the Japanese version.

Hmmm...
To do:
Document the sound effect differences here.
International Japan

The hee-haw sound played when losing a life was replaced by a proper jingle. The European version uses a slower version of the hee-haw sound.

International Japan

The jump sound was replaced with a sharper one.

When you pause the game during one of the main levels in the international versions, the message GAME PAUSED appears in the HUD. This message was removed in the Japanese version, and instead just pauses what is on the HUD.

European Version

There were some more music differences in the European version:

US/Japan Europe

The options screen's music was sped up.

US/Japan Europe

The tune played during the intro cutscene is longer on the European version, even including a little of the Game Over theme in it, but it ends up being cut off.

US/Japan Europe

The music for Lava Powerhouse, the second level, plays faster in the European version, and it also fixes a glitch in which the PSG would die off once the song looped once.
