Speedy Gonzales in The Cat Bandits is a platformer based on the titular Mexican mouse's Looney Tunes shorts.

It's probably best known for being the basis of an infamous pirated hack based on Sonic the Hedgehog, though.

Developer Credit

Stored at xB1A83 is a credit for the game's sound engine and composer:

Region Error

Attempting to play the game on a PAL console will hang the game on this screen instead of playing the intro sequence after the Sunsoft logo/copyright screen. The game was originally intended to be released outside of the United States, even having a PAL prototype, but it went unreleased.

Revisional Differences

The game was finished near the tail end of Sunsoft USA's bankruptcy and merger to Acclaim. Early revisions of the game still contained the original Sunsoft logo, despite having the Acclaim logo on the packaging. It was quickly changed in later issues of the game after the initial launch.

Notably, the later revision has text cut off on the leftmost of the screen due to last minute spacing changes while adding Acclaim Entertainment disclaimers.

Speedy is placed lower on the later revision to not cover the Acclaim logo.

The boot sequence was also changed in the later revision. In revision 1.0, the game boots to the copyright info screen, Warner Bros. logo, and Sunsoft logo in that order. In revision 1.1, the game boots to the Acclaim logo first, then the Warner Bros. logo, and then the copyright info screen.
