Taiko no Tatsujin 2 is the second installment of the titular rhythm game series starring sentient taiko drums.

It introduced many things that would become staples in the franchise, such as a proper in-game combo counter, voice acting (albeit limited to the Wada brothers), as well as a fourth difficulty, then titled Donderful!, which encompasses all songs; all but two of the originals from the previous game are exclusive to that difficulty as well.

NOTE: All of the offsets take in consideration an unscrambled version of the game's data (excluding bootloader) unless stated otherwise.

Unused Chart

Taiko no Tatsujin 2 stores 80 chart files in its data, associated with the game's 36 songs. However, of these 80, one is never actually used. Chart #76, which is referred to as ULTRA_D in memory, is meant to be a Donderful! chart for the song ultra soul, though the game just reuses the Hard/Muzukashii chart instead. In terms of differences, its offset is positioned slightly 0.034s earlier than the final charts, and its average BPM is also slower; 125.9497 against 125.984. However, the most notable thing about this unused chart is its branches; there is a total of 29 branch split areas, way more than any of the game's used charts. Taking in consideration the chart's length, this means there is a branch split area almost every 2 measures.

Below is a download containing not only the original chart file, but also a conversion to the .tja format, which is used in simulators like TaikoSanJiro, as well as TJAPlayer3 and its forks. However, due to the .tja format not supporting chart branching based on scoring (only based on accuracy or drumroll/balloon hits), it cannot be said that this conversion is 100% accurate. Despite this, there are commented sections which show the branch quotas as appropriate.

Unused Chart Data

While there's only one fully unused chart file, 32 others, counting repeated data, have some level of unused chart data via branches that are either partially or completely unaccessible.

Completely Unused Branches

This section is reserved for charts that normally should not have branches, but have Advanced or Master Branch data filled in.

Chart #03 - ANP_N

The Normal/Futsuu chart for the song Anpanman no march, which is also used for the Donderful! difficulty.
Its Advanced Branch area is filled with an earlier version of said chart, which follows the song's vocals a little closer.

Chart #04 - ASHI_H

The Hard/Muzukashii chart for the song Ashita ga aru sa, which is also used for the Donderful! difficulty.
Its Advanced and Master Branch areas are filled, though their data is identical. Differences only start halfway through the chart, at measure 24. Overall, there are slightly more notes compared to the used chart.

Chart #05 - ASHI_N

The Normal/Futsuu chart for the song Ashita ga aru sa.
Its Advanced Branch area is filled with an earlier version of said chart, and has less notes overall. One thing to notice is that the 2P area is filled differently from 1P; each measure starts with one or two Small Ka notes; the latter is used to notate sections of the song. Both this and the unused section of ASHI_H can be downloaded below:

Chart #06 - BKO_D

The Donderful! chart for the song Lovin' you Don-chan.
Its Advanced and Master Branch areas are filled; the latter is identical to the used chart, and the former contains an earlier variation. However, differences can only be found during the first chorus (measures 15 to 30), which sport different patterns.

Chart #14 - CHU_N

The Normal/Futsuu chart for the song Chu! Natsu party.
Its Advanced Branch area is filled with an earlier version of said chart, which, curiously, has elements from all three difficulties. It's worth noting that Chart #12, CHU_E, which is the song's Easy/Kantan chart, also has an unused Advanced Branch area, but the data is the same as this one.

Chart #18 - DONDO_N

The Normal/Futsuu chart for the song Don-chan Ondo, which is also used for the Donderful! difficulty.
It contains an unused Advanced Branch area, though all measures but the last one consist of the same data (4th notes of ドン-ドン-ドン-ドン on the 1P side and カッ-ドン-ドン-ドン on the 2P side).

Chart #24 - GACHA_N

The Normal/Futsuu chart for the song Gatchaman no uta.
It contains an unused Advanced Branch area, though only measure 7 is filled, which is also identical to the used chart.

Chart #48 - LUPIN_N

The Normal/Futsuu chart for the song Lupin sansei no theme '78.
Its Advanced and Master Branch areas are filled, and they have the following contents:

  • The Advanced Branch's 1P side contains the song's Hard/Muzukashii chart's Advanced Branch from the previous game.
  • The Advanced Branch's 2P side contains a very slightly earlier version of the song's Hard/Muzukashii chart's Normal Branch; the only difference is that measures 12, 13, 21, 22, 38 and 39 lack Ka notes, as seen in the images below:

Final Taiko2-LUPIN 12final.png
  • The Master Branch contains the song's Hard/Muzukashii chart's Master Branch from the previous game.

Chart #57 - NATSU_E

The Easy/Kantan chart for the song Natsumatsuri.
Both Advanced and Master Branch areas are filled, though their data is merely a placeholder; measures 6, 7, and 9 onwards are filled with a single Small Don (ドン) note at the beginning. The song's Normal/Futsuu (Chart #59, NATSU_N) and Hard/Muzukashii (Chart #58, NATSU_H) have the same data.

Chart #67 - RENAI_H

The Hard/Muzukashii chart for the song Renai revolution 21, which is also used for the Donderful! difficulty.
Its Advanced Branch area is filled, and contains an earlier version of this chart, which sports different patterns.

Miscellaneous

The charts HELLO_D (Chart #30) and YPP_D (Chart #80), which are the Donderful! charts for the songs Hello! Don-chan and Taiyou mo yappappaa, respectively, contain Advanced and Master Branch data, though they are exactly the same as the used one.

Partially Unused Branches

This section is reserved for charts that have used branches, but have filled sections that normally go unseen.

Chart #9 - CHOKO_D

The Donderful! chart for the song Chokotto LOVE.
For reference, the first branch split happens in measure 16. The Advanced Branch is identical to the Normal Branch (seen) until measure 11, while the Master Branch is only identical up to measure 8. The non-identical areas consist of the following pattern:

Taiko2-chokottoloveHIDDEN.png

Chart #19 - DORA_D

The Donderful! chart for the song Doraemon Ondo.
While the first branch split area happens in measure 8, it's impossible to reach the Master Branch due to the points quota (16150) being too high; the maximum amount of points the player can get up to the start of the measure before it is 15000. The next branch split happens in measure 16.

Advanced Taiko2-doraemonondoHIDDEN1.png
Master Taiko2-doraemonondoHIDDEN2.png

Chart #23 - GACHA_H

The Hard/Muzukashii chart for the song Gatchaman no uta, which is also used for the Donderful! difficulty.
Its unseen data, which goes up to measure 11, is identical to what is seen, except that the first measure is blank.

Chart #32 - IIYU_H

The Hard/Muzukashii chart for the song Ii yu dana, which is also used for the Donderful! difficulty.
While the first branch split area happens in measure 12, it's impossible to reach the Master Branch due to the points quota (40000) being too high; the maximum amount of points the player can get up to the start of the measure before it is 38000. However, from this to measure 20, where the next branch split is located, the only different measures compared to the Advanced Branch are 12 and 14, which have an additional note.

The Donderful! chart for the song Dai-chan kazoe uta.

Chart #39 - KOIWO_D

The Donderful! chart for the song Koi wo shichaimashita!.
For reference, the first branch split happens in measure 18. From measure 10, both Advanced and Master branch areas have different notes compared to what is seen (Normal branch), though the former is rather similar, only having differences in measures 10, 12, and 16.

Chart #42 - LOVEM_D

The Donderful! chart for the song LOVE machine.

Chart #47 - LUPIN_H
