I posted this on the Saturn Talk Page about 3 years ago, but now there's a page for the game... here it is:

"I have spent YEARS searching the internet trying to find images of the hidden character in Decathlete/Athlete Kings, Manchichi Kazame (I'm guessing at the spelling). Apparently he was completely disabled for the EU (and possibly USA) market. When you attain a certain score, additional sounds become available to listen to in the Sound Test which are his voice and the announcer calling his name, but you cannot physically select him.

I seem to rememeber you had to attain 8,000+ points in Decathlon mode, then at the Character Select screen you held X while selecting a character to bring up the hidden character. If anyone has the spare time to find this player and discover if he was truly disabled for EU/USA and post some images of him (or a video), I would be ENORMOUSLY grateful, and my curiosity for the last 15 years will finally be satisfied."

An update to this, the name is spelt "Mankichi Kazami", and at long last images and a video of him in action has surfaced.

I even went to the extent of getting a Saturn, a copy of both the British Athlete Kings and Japanese Decathlete and a region-switching cartridge... but I STILL can't get him to appear in either version.

Still hopeful someone more knowledgeable than myself can come up with more info. Maybe this japanese text will shed some light?

Cheers, Fishsta

Just a theory, I haven't played the game, but it could involve region detection. Region-switching cartridges don't change the Saturn's internal setting. Soukyugurentai early copies for instance have differences if they see a non-Japanese system. Theclaw (talk) 18:57, 16 September 2015 (EDT)

Robin Banks/Jef Jansens being missing from international releases

I have a few theories about this, both the name change and the removal. Firstly, the name "Robin Banks" was actually trademarked as a stage name for a DJ in the UK, so there could have been an IP issue over the name. IN addition, he looks a lot like Daley Thompson, albeit with an exaggerated afro - and given he had endorsed decathlon games in the past, it might not have been wise to I should point out though that in the EU release at least, Jef does appear in regular play, so it looks like he's only removed for the US market.

As a post script, I did once look at the unlock of Kazami, and apparently the function to enable his audio in the sound test still survives if you hit the goal criterion, so I'd be surprised if there are no remnants of him in international releases at all. Elcondor (talk) 04:33, 5 January 2018 (EST)
