If modern games tend to be carefully stage-managed theme park rides, The Hobbit is a chaotic Westworld where the animatronics have achieved rudimentary self-awareness but no awareness of the story's plot.

Disk Name

Early in the source novel, Bilbo is caught testing his skills as a burglar on a group of trolls. Pressed to identify himself, he stammers, "a bur—a hobbit". The dimwitted trolls then wonder aloud what a "burrahobbit" is.

Someone had this scene in mind when the computer asked them to name the master disk for the game's 800K release. Before being renamed The Hobbit, it was labeled Bur-a-hobbit. (The initial name can be seen in the penultimate sector with a disk editor.)
