In Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, The Tantive IV Endar Spire is under attack by a Sith fleet above the planet Taris. You play as a surviving member of the Endar Spire's crew of Republic soldiers, you join Carth Onasi in his search for Bastila after the destruction of the Endar Spire. After rescuing Bastila, Taris is destroyed by the Dark Lord of the Sith, Malak, who is bent on finding Bastila because he wants to turn her to the dark side to use her Battle Meditation against the Republic.

You escape the planet shortly before its surface was decimated by Malak's orbital fleet, and head to Dantooine where you learn to become a Jedi and find an ancient Star Map that leads to something called the Star Forge...
