This cactus is UNDER CONSTRUCTION
This article is a work in progress.
...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes.

The first playable ever-known prototype of hotline Miami. It was considered lost media until someone found it via the Way back machine. This was fixed by some fans by the game due to, you couldn't restart and use melee weapons like shown in Devolver digital's showcase for super carnage.

Level Changes

The prototype, starts you off in the bathroom with bottles and grenades, while the other rooms contain a variety of melee weapons. An interesting note is that this prototype level appears in the final game as "Full house" though with minor alterations, like having the bathroom replace the bottom room and adding a kitchen area.

Enemy Changes

While you fight the Russian mob in the final game, you fight unknown soldiers in super carnage they all carry uzis in the prototype. The idea for enemies carrying uzis carried over for one level called "Clean hit" Waiters will carry uzis and will attack Jacket. But the idea was finally carried over for Wrong number where gang members carry uzis. The AI for the enemies is different since they use dog patrol AI since they turn around corners and they will also sometimes stop then scan around before moving on and will strafe when engaged with the player.

The enemy guard dogs have different fur and more smaller. its Ai is sorta changed since it uses the patrol that was seen for some enemies and thug since they will turn once they hit the wall.

Weapon Changes

Every weapon in super carnage has different sprites and has one scrapped detail, if you kill someone with a melee weapon it will get blood on it this was nowhere seen after super carnage.

Fire Axe

The fire axe seen in super carnage has a wooden handle, a baseball bat-like bottom, and is straight, while in the final game it has a red handle, omits the baseball bat-like handle, and is curved.

Sledge Hammer

The sledgehammer has the same grip as the fire axe, and its head is more like the head of a sledgehammer, while the final game changes the grip to be brown and its head is flatter.

Baseball Bat

The bat has many changed aspects in the prototype, most noticeable it has a bigger end, handles that have been reused for the axe and sledgehammer, and its color is more of a real wooden baseball bat. while the final game made it simpler, giving white stripes to the handle, and giving it a more orange color.

Golf Club

The golf club in the prototype has more detail, while the final has simplistic details.

Lead Pipe

The lead pipes in super carnage are thicker and have an angle. the final game has flattened it but the angled design is reused for the heavy lead pipe in the sequel.

mMchete

The machete has a few differences including a brown handle and a thicker blade, while the final game slims the blade and gave it a grey handle.

Katana

And the final melee weapon is the katana, and its design in Super Carnage has a duller, more sword-like hilt, and a lighter blade, while the final game shortens the blade and gave it a different hilt and now has strings on it.

Firearms

The guns are also different in the super carnage prototype though only 2 made it past the prototype.

Uzi

The uzi had a few changes including having a grey body and taking the form of a mac-10 while the final games have a black body and taking the form of a Micro-Uzi. Also, this is the gun in the game that has a pickup sprite that is dropped by enemies which we come to later.

shotgun

The shotgun has nothing changed much except for its appearance taking a form of a sawn-off instead of a weapon that is based on the Remington.

Misc Changes

Protaganist

The weirdest difference in the prototype is originally the protagonist was nude, since originally cactus aka Jonathon wanted a reward system based on what clothes you equip according to the stream while the final game Denneton games gave the protagonist clothes.

Movement

The movement in the game is very janky since you can't move in diagonal directions while the final game movement is more smooth and you can move in diagonal directions.

Curser

The cursor was green instead of full white and you couldn't lock on enemies.

Scrapped Weapons

While the weapons in super carnage changed in development, there are weapons that never made it outside of super carnage due to some of them not fitting the style with hotline Miami.

Wooden Board

The only melee weapon that didn't make it outside of super carnage acts the same as other melee weapons.

Grenades

A scrapped throwable it works by when thrown it will explode after a few seconds and any enemy caught in the blast will be blown to pieces, it has a one odd quirks of you able to survive the blast, the reason it was scrapped due to no practical reason.

Removed Sounds

the sounds that were used in the game never made it past in prototyping phase.

Scrapped Mechanic Ammunition System

According to sprite 39, it has three ammunition types, shotgun shells, bullets, and fuel which may suggest there was once an ammunition system in place since they could have been part of a hud which since you can pick up Uzis from dropped enemies it might have refilled bullets though in the prototype you just have infinite ammo and in the final game theirs no way to refill ammo, Hotline Miami 2:Wrong number sorta reimplements this feature but parts of ammo crates for Beard to use.
