Roar through at over 300km/h — The game's tagline.

The first installment of the Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune series to have online features and utilizes the Banapassport system in place of Tuning Cards from Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune until 3DX+. For the first time in the series, Porsche vehicles (RUF) were available outside of Japan.

Hmmm...
To do:
Regional differences - reportedly the Japanese version launched with Shinjuku/Ikebukuro and Shibuya tracks (as well as Hakone, Nagoya and Fukuoka still WIP in early Japanese versions) while the international version has Mt. Taikan exclusive to them at launch.

Unused Rival Cars

Hmmm...
To do:
Some of these cars that supposedly does not have color set actually do have one set. Additionally, some of attract demo cars are also coded as rival cars.

Most of the unused rival cars would later appear in Maximum Tune 6, suggesting that the game was originally planned to have 100 story chapters instead of 60 with the rest being dripfeed content for the game's sequels and updates. The cars can be selected and driven via memory editing, though some parts of the car may be rendered incorrectly when shown in the menus. The cars are rendered correctly when loaded into a race however.

AIRPORT_BUS

Internally named REINABUS, the car's model and textures exist inside the game's files. It finally appeared in the ending cutscene of Maximum Tune 6's Chapter 98 ("Interceptor") where Reina rode a bus to the airport on the way to the United States.

BCNR33_Rgo

RGO's demo R33 GT-R that appeared in Chapter 96 of Maximum Tune 3DX, and returned later in the same chapter ("Tokyo Nurburgring") of Maximum Tune 6. The color is set to pink according to the script files.

BCNR33_Yuji

Yuji's R33 GT-R, as used in Chapter 86 of Maximum Tune 3DX. The car does not have a set color in Maximum Tune 4, thus it uses the default silver color, although the roll cage is blue, which also happens to be the body color used in Maximum Tune 6.

BNR32_Tomoya

Tomoya's R32 GT-R that appears in Garage ACE arc in Maximum Tune 3. The color is set to a metallic white according to the script files.

BNR32_Tomoya1st

Pre-tuned version of Tomoya's R32, as used in the early chapters of Maximum Tune 3's Garage ACE arc. Being a variant of BNR32_Tomoya, the color used is the same as that model.

BNR32_Reina3rd

Reina's R32 GT-R used in the Zero Fighter on the Ground arc in Maximum Tune 6.

FD3S_Ogishima

Shinji Ogishima's (a character from the sequel/spinoff manga C1 Runner) FD RX-7, as appearing in the FD Master arc in Maximum Tune 3DX. The car color is white according to the script files. It received a color change to dark blue on Maximum Tune 6 and Drift Spirits via the Wangan Midnight collaboration event (note that Drift Spirits occasionally reuses Maximum Tune car assets), as it's the actual color of the car according to C1 Runner manga's cover.

FD3S_Ogishima_1st

A pre-upgraded version of Ogishima's FD used on early chapters of the FD Master arc in Maximum Tune 3DX. This variation lacks the RGO windshield sticker and is mounted with stock spoilers. The car color is white according to the script files. The color was changed to dark blue on Maximum Tune 6.

NCEC_Yuji

Yuji Kishida's Mazda Roadster (NC) as he used in the Zero Fighter on the Ground arc in Maximum Tune 3DX. By the time the arc in question was readded to Maximum Tune 6, Bandai Namco was finally able to secure Honda/Acura license one game/version prior (5DX+), so Yuji's car was changed back to the Honda S2000 Type S (AP2) just like he drove in the manga, rendering the substitute obsolete. This car uses the default silver color scheme, and the fake shadow texture is missing.

R997_Ishida

Ishida's Ruf RGT (997), as appearing in chapters involving him in the Japanese version of Maximum Tune 3DX+ (he drove a Gemballa Avalanche, still based on the 997-generation 911, in those). Some tutorial screens and early loading screens has shown Ishida driving in his RGT, possibly to match the car he used in the Japanese version of Maximum Tune 3, but his car was changed to a Corvette ZR1 (C6) late in development. The color is set to a metallic white according to the script files.

Z31_Akio

Akio Asakura's Z31 300ZX, as appearing in The Return of the Devil Z arc in Maximum Tune 3. It is shown as red in the anime series and in previous games, like other unfinished cars, it uses the default silver color scheme. Unlike most of the cars above, this car never appears in later games as The Return of Devil Z arc jumps straight into Akio driving the Devil Z starting from Maximum Tune 4.

BNR35V_Feelinɡ

One of Racer Wannabe/The Feeling Team's cars. Possibly their initial car along with the Corvette ZR1 (C6) that they would have driven in Chapter 51 ("Atmosphere" in 4 and 5, "Racer Wannabes" in 5DX and 5DX+), but was later changed to an AE86 and RX-7 FD. Uses the default silver color scheme.

MA61_Aizawa

Kei Aizawa's father's car, only appeared as a pre-rendered image for a cutscene during the final race of the Monster Machine arc (Chapter 30 "Will Power"). The actual car isn't actually used or appeared anywhere in-game. The model is missing its fake shadow mesh. The car color is grey according to the script files.

Placeholder Car

A generic car model with "準備中" text on it (translates as "Work in Progress"). Used as placeholder for unfinished cars, this generic car is also rendered and used in the dress-up parts screen and tutorial to represent the player's car.

Placeholder-Only Rivals

While there are dialogue portraits from the post-Legendary FC arcs from Maximum Tune 3DX+ (these were later used in Maximum Tune 6 when the post-Legendary FC arcs were brought back) and below that were remain in the game's files, below are cars that does not have a finished model, instead using the placeholder car shown above.

In Maximum Tune 4 to 5DX+, it was changed to High-Tech Two Tone AE86 and Yellow FD3S in a reference to another racing manga (that so happens to be published in the same anthology, Young Magazine), Initial D.

  • Z32_Makoto2nd: As above, but with a GT wing; used in the middle chapters of the same story arc.
  • Z32_Yamashita: Appears in 10 Outrun Mode and Tuner Story in Maximum Tune 3.
  • ZR1_Feeling: What is supposed to be the Feeling Team's Corvette ZR1 (C6), with a rather undetailed model.

Gemballa Leftovers

The slots for Gemballa cars are still present, but were overwritten with the placeholder car mentioned above as they were superseded by the Ruf models. The car model logo for the cars were also removed.
