Development file path

In the shortcut file included in the latest Windows version of Chapter 1&2 on itch.io, there seems to be a full file path to the original build stored on Toby's hard drive. Will look back to it later. --dont disturb m, also, dis text leaved by WenYuan233336. 10:15, 18 September 2021 (UTC)

Interesting stuff. These needs some investigation. If these are real then these should be added to the article. I probably should move these into a To-do page. --WenYuan233336 is dumb (talk) 10:22, 19 September 2021 (UTC)

Track is named Chill Jailbreak Alarm To Study And Relax To in the OST isn't it? Can you confirm? --WenYuan233336 is dumb (talk) 12:35, 19 September 2021 (UTC)
No - look in the local files of Deltarune, there's a "mus" folder with most (if not all) of the songs in the game. Chill Jailbreak Alarm to Study and Relax To is titled napsta_alarm.ogg, alarm_titlescreen.ogg is its own song, used only in that dogcheck room. --ZesT, the Cataclysmically Unfunny (talk) 12:47, 19 September 2021 (UTC)

Unused tea response

There is nothing in here --WenYuan233336 is dumb (talk) 06:13, 20 September 2021 (UTC)

And more!

Adding other stuff here to not spam the talk page:

  • obj_readable_room1 seems to have a more generic error message than the original Chapter 1. Like Paper Mario I guess.
  • Oddity to add if desired: The English text for Chapter 2 isn't externalized, unlike the Japanese text. Some translators will have a bad time.
  • Even more oddity: A lot of ch1 file is kept next to the ch2 file, duplicates of ch2 files also exists in result. Maybe it is for compatibility.

--WenYuan233336 is dumb (talk) 11:44, 19 September 2021 (UTC)

Potentially (and certainly!) unused songs (according to someone that isn't too experienced with finding unused stuff)

alarm_titlescreen.ogg

Used in the alternate dogcheck room described earlier. There also seems to be an intro to this little ditty, as seen in the room, but I couldn't find it for the life of me (see below)

There is some bit of Lost Girl mixed inside. Is it the alternative version of Lost Girl Toby posted earlier? Thought again, unlikely. This game indeed have too much unused stuff than most have excepted. --WenYuan233336 is dumb (talk) 13:18, 19 September 2021 (UTC)

static_placeholder.ogg

I don't know why but I've got a real feeling this file's spectrogram could actually mean something for some reason. It's probably nothing, but hunches be hunchin'.

Might not actually be unused, but had placeholder in the name, so... The static sound used at the end of Chapter 2 is labeled tv_noise.ogg, however. The only way I can think of this being used is if it was used before the whole dark fountain thingy, when the TV is first turned on by Susie.

Try to search for the file name in the code. Run the ExportAllCode2_3.csx script on data.win with UndertaleModTool and search in the exported code. --WenYuan233336 is dumb (talk) 13:39, 19 September 2021 (UTC)

These already exist in Chapter 1, and I think these are all documented. It's not about Chapter 2 afaik. --WenYuan233336 is dumb (talk) 13:42, 19 September 2021 (UTC)
Yeah, I second that. I'm pretty sure obj_unusedclassevent_Step_0 is actually used in Chapter 1 anyway, but I haven't read every last nook and cranny of the Deltarune page, so I only really know of UNUSED_slash_UNUSED's "Where am I?" text and the "the gash weaves down as if you cry" Gaster text. --ZesT, the Cataclysmically Unfunny (talk) 13:46, 19 September 2021 (UTC)
Got the strings/text from 1.002 already if you wanna dig into them. (Unrelated to text, but I also extracted sprites and audio separately in case anyone wants them for the Chapter 2 page.) --AndrewIdot the dumbass 16:16, 19 September 2021 (UTC)

Should the alternative route be documented in the article?

Unused Snowgrave use for normal enemies.

Spoilers for those who never did the alternate route:

So when you do the alternate route which is freezing every enemy with Noelle and making some specific decisions, you eventually confront Berdly and you are able to use a spell known as Snowgrave on him. However it is only used for his fight as Noelle abandons you after the battle. This means you can't use Snowgrave on normal enemies normally without hacking you and Noelle into other rooms you shouldn't be in. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrRA64zwJmo&t, when using Snowgrave on a normal enemy, it will play the freeze animation but without Noelle hovering into the air, the enemies will also have a unique animation where they turn into red dust and fade away. -- From: Turbulation (talk) 12:41, 19 September 2021 (EST)

Actually there IS a way to use it on normal enemies without hacking. To do this, proceed through the alternate route as normal, but once the fight begins, end the fight without using Snowgrave. (spare, fight, use normal ice attacks, etc). Once the fight ends the game will be back in a Normal route but you'll still have the attack and the ring. Then, if you backtrack the puzzles will respawn, including the cheese puzzle. Touching any of the cheese will summon a monster, which you can then use Snowgrave on. Made a quick video for you to demonstrate. It's unclear if this is intentional or will remain in Chapter 3 however. The preceding unsigned comment was added by LunarFantom (talk • contribs)

Deltarune Chapter 1 Sprites

Considering Chapter 1 and 2 share files under this new demo, should sprites used in Chapter 1 be counted as unused in Chapter 2 if not used in that chapter? Just checking --Scrade Cottontail (talk) 01:12, 20 September 2021 (CST)

I suggest to add a little bit of reference Misread --WenYuan233336 is dumb (talk) 06:44, 20 September 2021 (UTC)
Technically, they don't. In the files, sprites used by Chapter 1 now have ch1 in their filename, and they were copied over to Chapter 2 (without ch1 in their filename) just in case they needed to be called, so they're still used. (At least I assume so, idk I'm stupid lol) --AndrewIdot the dumbass 04:08, 21 September 2021 (UTC)

Someone put Jevil's Merry-Go-Round BG in the unused sprites.

room_dw_city_prototype_01 and room_dw_city_prototype_02

Two rooms that I don't think are used anywhere, mainly because there are no entrances or exits that lead anywhere else besides ones that lead between each room. As seen from these screenshots, they were undoubtedly used to get a grip on how the city should feel.

Debug Mode controls

Credits to SgvSth#7082 on Underminers Discord.

Debug mode Keyboard commands.

  • [D] -- Current HP of the first member of the party goes to 999+ (Also, enemy sprites leave streaks for color behind.)
  • [D] x2 -- Removes any streaks from the screen.
  • [S] -- Brings up a save prompt. Seems to take some data from other save files.
  • [M] -- Mute/Unmute music.
  • [G] (held) -- A counter called GIF Frame appears in the bottom-left corner and counts up.
  • [R] -- Reset
  • [L] -- Sends you to your last save point in one of your save files(?)
  • [V] -- Ends the enemy's turn. Only useable during an attack.
  • [F2] -- All party members are fully healed
  • [F3] -- All party members recover 1 HP.
  • [F5] -- Instantly win the current battle. (Special thanks to Blugar23)
  • [F5] -- Giga Queen only: Sets Giga Queen's current HP to 1 and skips to her final attack.
  • [F6] -- All enemies have their current HP set to 1. The Giga Queen is immune to this.
  • [F8] -- All party members have their current HP set to 1
  • [F9] -- TP set to 0%
  • [F10] -- TP set to Max
  • [2] (Keypad only?) -- Brings up a prompt with the message "pause"
  • [3] (Keypad only?) -- Sets the speed to very slow. Helpful for frame perfect actions. Hitting it again restores to normal speed.
  • [~] - Increases the speed. Helpful to speed actions up. Hitting it again restores to normal speed.
  • [Insert] - Warp to next room
  • [Delete] - Warp to previous room

There are a few context keys, but there is special text that explains it. For example:

Rouxls (No.63)

  • [B] -- Turns the Thrash Machine debug on/off.
  • [Up] -- Edits the Head of the Thrash Machine
  • [Right] -- Edits the Base of the Thrash Machine (Bug)
  • [Down] -- Does nothing, but should be the key to edit the Base
  • [Shift] -- Edits the Feet of the Thrash Machine
  • [0] -- Random Thrash Machine
  • [1], [2], [3] -- Guaranteed attack from the Head/Foot/Blockse on the next enemy turn
  • [4] -- Random attack on the next enemy turn (The red message on this is special)

BulletTester (No.777) [Q], [W], [E], [T], [Y] -- ????? (Red text claims that these keys should have an effect.) Oh, F5 has a second effect. F6 reduces the HP of the enemy to 1, but Giga Queen is immune to this. However, F5 will set the HP of the Giga Queen to 1 (and skip to Round 3)

--Dobby233Liu is still dumb (talk) 12:13, 21 September 2021 (UTC)

Looked through the debug keys a bit more, and noticed that some of them not labelled are context-sensitive/need more detail. I'll just write down the ones that are significant.
  • [M] -- Mute/Unmute music (only during battle).
  • [G] (held) -- A counter called GIF Frame appears in the bottom-left corner and counts up. Saves as a .GIF in the save data folder in your Local AppData (DELTARUNE).
  • [R] -- Reloads the room you're currently in (characters warp to beginning of room or to the save point if one exists).
  • [L] -- Loads the save point on the file you last saved on. (has a rare tendency to crash, only happened to me once)
  • [Numpad 2] -- Shows a prompt message, "pause", that also pauses Deltarune (who would've guessed?). Closing the prompt resumes gameplay.
  • [Numpad 3] -- Sets the FPS cap to 8. Pressing it again restores to normal speed.
  • [`/~] - Sets the FPS cap to 150 (or higher?). Pressing it again restores to normal speed.

Found older room variants for Kris' and Susie's rooms from Ralsei's castle

Deltarune-CH2-Kris-Early-Room-Ingame-Talkpage.png

Can be found if you load into them with the debug mode, as long as you haven't accessed the rooms normally. They're older variants, and I already documented Susie's as a sprite (couldn't load it in due to my save, so just have a screenshot of Kris'.) Lancer has an old room variant of his own, but it's just an empty void.

Unobscured & Potentially Unused Sprites

I've got a bunch of sprites that are either full versions of sprites that are usually obscured, or sprites that I have no memory of seeing in either ending. Can anyone else check whether these are really unused? It may be due to the way these sprites were extracted, but some have a slight distortion on the edges. Keep in mind, the filenames on these uploaded sprites are not their official names. Sorry if I screwed this up, I've never used a talk page before --Jasman506 (talk) 01:07, 22 September 2021 (UTC)

There is an unused dialogue with Ralsei.
Instead of "... is it s-strange to say...", he asks "... what are you thinking about right now?", and then a choice appears:
"Thinking of *whom we give the gift before*", "Thinking of you" and "?".

It can be activated only by modifying the game code (more precisely, line 71-72 of "gml_Object_obj_ch2_scene21_loop_Step_0").

obj_rouxlsbattle_hey

There's an object in ver. 1.003's data.win file called obj_rouxlsbattle_hey, and all it seems to do is draw a small 'hey' textbox sprite on-screen near rouxls in time(?) with the music. I've not tried actually loading it in-game (and I can't seem to find any footage of it actually working anywhere), so I'm not sure if the value is actually correct or not. It checks flag 54 and destroys itself if it's zero, seemingly signalling the end of the battle. It's also got some leftover debug code, where pressing P will set the track position to just before the 'hey' portion.

I hope this isn't a duplicate - haven't been able to find anyone anywhere talking about this yet.

It's used. Most people just don't see it because an attack cannot be going on when the music gets to that track. Skawo (talk)

Is cyber_battle.ogg unused?

Highly doubt it's used in any way --Dobby233Liu (talk) 13:14, 30 October 2021 (UTC)

Duplicate audio files

I'm still a rookie at TCRF, so I apologize if this topic sucks. I found duplicate audio files for a few Chapter 1 sound effects, having the suffix _ch1 in all of them. I think there may be a few minor differences in some of them, but I'm not sure.

The list of sound effects are as follows.

  • snd_closet_fall_ch1.ogg - Kris and Susie falling into the Dark World during the prologue.
  • snd_closet_impact_ch1.ogg - Kris landing in the Dark World during the prologue.
  • snd_great_shine_ch1.ogg - Soul shining bright in the ending.
  • snd_paper_rumble_ch1.ogg - The paper shaking in the prologue.
  • snd_paper_surf_ch1.ogg - Some vague windy sound effect. Don't know what it's for.
  • snd_revival_ch1.ogg - Fountain being cleared in the ending.
  • snd_rurus_appear_ch1.ogg - Rouxls Kaard appearing in his beam of light.
  • snd_usefountain_ch1.ogg - The short guitar song that plays during the ending.

heal prayer on the map and the queen battle

in scr_spellinfo, spells have a variable called "spellusable" that controls whether or not they can be used on the map. by default, all of them are set to false because of how TP works, but if you change it to true, you can use heal prayer to heal a party member on the map. other spells have no effect for obvious reasons.

however, due to how battles work, your tp stat gets reset to 0 after winning (though i don't know what effect--if any losing has). the queen battle and potentially other boss fights don't seem to do this, so you can keep your tp (among other things like party members staying downed when the battle is completed instead of being revived) note: i only tested this with the violent ending, i'm not sure if it happens if you get the peaceful ending or not

there's another variable just called usable that's only listed on a few spells and is also always set to false, but it doesn't seem to do anything

here's a video of it in action

just remembered this was documented on the chapter 1 page, but this is still semi-notable because of the queen battle being bugged --Sjl057 (talk) 05:01, 19 September 2022 (UTC)
fuck i hate to edit this page so much but heal prayer's spellusable value was set to true in chapter 1 (in both survey program and the chapters 1 and 2 demo) but set to false in chapter 2 --Sjl057 (talk) 05:37, 19 September 2022 (UTC)

Possible explanation for why Lost Girl is called "noelle_normal"?

I was looking at my watchlist and stuff, and I saw the section about noelle_normal in Asset Oddities got edited. And for some reason, that made me think about how the Weird Route is a thing. Unless I'm mistaken, you can only hear Lost Girl in the non-Weird Route, and Weird Route is also referenced in the files from what I understand (if someone could verify that though, I'd appreciate it, because it's hard to find any info about it on Google other than people saying things related to Weird Route do indeed use the word "weird" in them). So my proposal is that Lost Girl is called "noelle_normal" because it plays in the normal route, not necessarily because it's considered her main theme or anything else.
