Code Geass DS: Hangyaku no Lelouch is a surprisingly good RPG covering the events from the anime's first season, with optional alternate events and endings. It features characters obsessed with world domination, and doing hilarious over-the-top gestures while twisting their bodies in awkward angles.

Unused Graphics

Mr. Placeholder

Among the sprites used for the characters when they chat with the bosses in the beginning of the battles are some very odd placeholder sprites of an old man with a little speech bubble nearby. Said speech bubble shows the internal number of the sprite, which varies as it is used many times.

"Mr. Placeholder" has absolutely no relevance to the story, and his sprite comes in different flavors: facing right as an ally, facing left as an enemy, or glowing like some characters in plot-important events.

These sprites are being posted here out-of-context, with a used sprite provided for comparison and an idea of how the placeholder sprites would have looked like in-game.

The Old Man (along with his speech bubble) strikes again, serving this time as a placeholder for Limit-Break close-up battle sprites. This time around, he has brought a rifle with him! He only has sprites of him facing left, like an enemy; but he has some "glowing orange" alternate sprites.

Early Graphics

Some of the early eye close-up shot graphics are still in the ROM, unused. Suzaku has only one early close-up, plus an orange variant of it. Lelouch has another close-up for when he is using his Geass power that was scrapped to be replaced with a special sequence.

The final graphics have much more elaborate shading. Also, Suzaku gets three close-ups: a furious one for when he is the final boss under some circumstances, another one when he is facing you normally as an enemy, and a third one where he is recruited by Lelouch under the alternate non-canonical story path where Lelouch makes an alliance with the Britannians to overthrow the throne usurpators Castor and Pollux. The Japanese Liberation Front members have also better final sprites not pictured here.

Some early still sprites of characters destined for plot-relevant conversations during battles are still in the ROM, unused. They overall lack polish both in drawing and coloring; which is especially obvious with Zero's mask visor which is oddly twisted upwards, and Suzaku and Ougi's off-model drawing. In the final version, they are replaced with higher quality portraits which have added complete lip/eye animation.
