Early Toy Field

An near identical early version of Toy Field, sharing the same filename as the final version (sta00.gpl). The early version is located at the beginning of the stadium files, while the final version is located at the end of the stadium files.

General

Compared to the final version, there are plenty of differences and things to note:

  • Various textures were changed between both versions, making the final version appear darker than the early version
  • The panels in the field have no text (with the exception being the panels above the doors).
  • All panels in the outfield, and the doors that flip over when hit are included in the early version's stadium model, instead of being separate objects which are loaded in the final
  • Instead of labeling the amount of coins earned, the early version's panels label the type of base that gets lit up. This can be seen in the panels above the doors, which are labeled 2B, 3B, and 4 HR. In the final version, the panels above the doors were changed into one giant panel and reads GRAND SLAM! (GRAND SLAM in the Japanese version). Additionally, some of the buttons in the outfield contain hidden text reading HIT, ?, 2B HIT, 3B HIT, WII, and HR.
  • The letters in the early version on outfield spell out MIRACLE, which matches the Japanese version's letters in the final. The letters in the early version are also behind the doors on a wall, instead of being directly on the door.
  • The TOY FIELD sign behind home plate in the early version has a different font, which was changed to the Super Mario font in the final version.
  • The FOUL panels have a tendency to be rendered though the stadium model. An exclamation mark was also added to the panels.

Textures

A lot of the textures that appear in both the early and final share some differences, with most of them being either combined or shrunken in the final.

Early Texture(s) Final Texture(s) Notes
MSSToyFieldBrickBlockTexture.png MSSToyFieldQuestionMarkBlockTexture.png MSSEarlyToyFieldBrickBlockTexture.png MSSEarlyToyFieldQuestionMarkBlockTexture.png MSSEarlyToyFieldQuestionMarkBlockSideTexture.png The brick blocks in the early version uses a lighter color scheme, while the final uses it's design seen throughout various Super Mario games. The ? Block on the other hand was less saturated in the early version, with it's final version matching it's current design. The early version lacks a side texture for the ? Block.
MSSEarlyToyFieldMushroomTexture.png MSSEarlyToyFieldMushroomShineTexture.png MSSToyFieldMushroomTexture.png MSSToyFieldMushroomShineTexture.png The mushroom seen in the background has more detail in the early version, and has it's texture bigger in the early version. The shine effect for the mushroom is a little brighter in the early version, but darker in the final version, making it a bit hard to see.
MSSEarlyToyFieldPanelInsideSidesTexture.png
MSSEarlyToyFieldPanelSidesTexture.png MSSEarlyToyFieldHomerunPanelSidesTexture.png MSSEarlyToyFieldDoorSidesTexture.png
MSSToyFieldPanelInsideSidesTexture.png
MSSToyFieldPanelSidesTexture.png MSSToyFieldHomerunPanelSidesTexture.png MSSToyFieldDoorSidesTexture.png
Most of the side textures for the field panels, homerun panels, and the doors are lighter in the final than in the early version. But most notably, the side textures for the panels were recolored to appear golden, along with the surface adding black outlines. The texture for the inside of the panel's sides has a purple square, which was removed in the final.
MSSEarlyToyFieldWallTexture.png MSSToyFieldWallTexture.png The walls are darker in the early version, but brighter in the final. The detail on the wall texture is also different between both the early and final texture.
MSSEarlyToyFieldHillSurfaceTexture.png MSSToyFieldHillSurfaceTexture.png The surface texture for the hills has more detail, and smaller in the early version. These were changed in the final version.
MSSEarlyToyFieldCastleBrickTexture.png MSSToyFieldCastleBrickTexture.png The brick texture seen in the castle has different lighting in the early and final texture.
MSSEarlyToyFieldShadowTexture.png MSSToyFieldShadowTexture.png The texture for the shadows seen around the walls of Toy Field are blue in the early version, but gray in the final version, explaining why the shadows in the final version are more opaque than in the early version. Interestingly, the final version retains the shadows for the lights behind home plate, even though no lights are present behind home plate.
MSSEarlyToyFieldLightTexture.png MSSToyFieldLightTexture.png The lights in Toy Field uses the default light texture seen throughout most stadiums in the early version, using vertex colors to color it orange. This was changed in the final version to already be orange, as well as being made a bit darker.
MSSEarlyToyFieldReflection.png MSSFinalToyFieldReflection.png The reflection texture in the final version still depicts the early version, as most of the differences seen in the early version aren't in the final version. The final version of the reflection is a bit blurry, and it's background color is gray, instead of black in the early version.

"Bare" Mario Stadium

A very early "bare" version of Mario Stadium, sharing the same filename as the final version at night (sta01b.gpl). This early version is located at the beginning of the stadium files.

General

Compared to the final version, there are plenty of differences and things to note:

  • Much of the infield in the early version appears very bright, which was changed in the final version.
  • The background and sky of the early version of the stadium is not modeled.
  • The grass does not have the lines seen in the infield and outfield. In addition, the edges of the grass lack the glow effect in the early version.
  • The dirt does not have any textures for the chalk.
  • No shadows are present in the early version for the footlight, stands, and bases.
  • The Nintendo logo seen behind home base is missing in the early version.
  • The dugouts do not have any benches, or bat holders in the early version.

Early Texture(s) Final Texture(s) Notes
MSSBareMarioStadiumDugoutTexture1.png MSSBareMarioStadiumDugoutTexture2.png MSSMarioStadiumDugoutTexture1.png MSSMarioStadiumDugoutTexture2.png The textures used for the dugouts are smaller in the early version, but made bigger in the final version.
MSSBareMarioStadiumWallTexture1.png MSSBareMarioStadiumWallTexture2.png MSSBareMarioStadiumWallTexture3.png MSSMarioStadiumWallTexture.png Much of the textures in the early version for the walls in the field were combined, and made bigger in the final version.
MSSBareMarioStadiumHomePlateTexture.png MSSBareMarioStadiumBaseTexture.png MSSBareMarioStadiumPitchersPlateTexture.png MSSMarioStadiumHomePlateTexture.png MSSMarioStadiumBaseTexture.png MSSMarioStadiumPitchersPlateTexture.png The textures for home plate, the bases, and the pitcher's plate are smaller in the early version, but bigger in the final. More dirt was added to the home plate, base, and pitcher's plate textures.
MSSBareMarioStadiumGrassTexture.png MSSMarioStadiumGrassTexture1.png The grass texture in the early version is smaller, and brighter. This was changed in the final version to be bigger, and darker.
MSSBareMarioStadiumDirtTexture.png
MSSBareMarioStadiumChalkTexture.png
MSSMarioStadiumDirtTexture.png
MSSMarioStadiumDirtChalkTexture1.png
MSSMarioStadiumDirtChalkTexture2.png
The dirt texture appears more yellow in the early version, which was changed in the final to be colored realistically to resemble dirt on a real-life baseball field. The texture in the early version is also smaller, but bigger in the final. The chalk texture was also changed in the final version, to have one only consisting of the chalk, and one with parts of the dirt on the side of the chalk.

Early Mario Stadium (Night)

An early version of Mario Stadium at night, sharing the same filename as the final version (sta01b.gpl). The early version is located at the end of the stadium files, while the final version is located at the beginning of the stadium files.

General

Compared to the final version, there are plenty of differences and things to note:

  • The field in the early version lacks proper lighting, making the grass and dirt appear very bright.
  • The lighthouse is located on the stadium, instead of the island in the background in the final version. Both background islands are missing in the early version.
  • The searchlight doesn't spin around in the early version. Instead, the searchlight is part of the stadium model, rather than being a separate object loaded in the final
  • The scoreboard in the early version has a sign of Mario's hat on top, instead of Mario's emblem in the final version. The early version also has white lines around the scoreboard, which was removed in the final version.
  • The boat in the background originally had no lights in the early version, which was changed to have lights in the final version.
  • The audience does not animate in the early version.
  • The stadium lights appear brighter in the early version, which was made less brighter in the final version.
  • The lights coming out of the windows appear orange in the early version, instead of yellow-ish in the final version.
  • The scoreboard that appears behind the infield is fully modeled in the early version, but not in the final version.

MSSMarioStadiumNightBoatTexture.png
MSSMarioStadiumNightBoatWoodTexture.png
The textures for the boat, glass, and the metal were all combined into one texture in the final version. The texture for the glass was also changed to be yellow in the final, as opposed to being dark blue. The wood texture seen in the boat in both versions was shrunken in the final.

MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightAudienceTexture2.png
MSSMarioStadiumNightAudienceTexture.pngMSSMarioStadiumNightAudienceTexture3.png
MSSMarioStadiumNightAudienceTexture2.png
It's worth noting that the side and back views of the audience in the early version go unused, as only the front facing texture is modeled in the early version. The early textures also share the same color palette used for the audience texture in Mario Superstar Baseball. as they are more saturated than the final versions. Boo and Goomba are removed from the final version's textures, unlike the audience texture in Mario Superstar Baseball.
MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightDugoutTexture1.png MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightDugoutTexture2.png MSSMarioStadiumDugoutTexture1.png MSSMarioStadiumDugoutTexture2.png

The dugout textures are bigger in the early version, but shrunken in the final.

MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightWallTexture1.png MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightWallTexture2.png MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightFoulPoleTexture1.png MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightFoulPoleTexture2.png MSSMarioStadiumWallTexture.png The textures for the walls, and the foul poles were all combined into one texture in the final version. The final version of the walls are also brighter in the final version. The textures in the early version are actually higher quality versions of the ones seen in the unused "bare" version of Mario Stadium.
MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightScoreboardGlowTexture2.png MSSMarioStadiumNightScoreboardGlowTexture.png The brightness effect on the glow texture was removed in the final version.
MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightWindowLightTexture.png MSSMarioStadiumNightWindowLightTexture.png The glow texture for the windows has the window fully modeled in the early texture. The final version removes all the detail and is instead a simplistic glow effect.
MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightScoreboardTexture.png MSSMarioStadiumNightScoreboardTexture.png Aside from the scoreboard being slighly brighter in the final version, the parts of the scoreboard were rearranged between both versions. The design in the early version was altered a bit in the final version's textures.
MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightWaterTexture.png MSSMarioStadiumWaterTexture.png The water texture in the early version was made a little brighter in the final version.
MSSEarlyMarioStadiumWindowLightTexture.png MSSMarioStadiumWindowLightTexture.png The early version of the window lights seen around the beach house is darker. The final version instead reuses the light texture used for the boat in the background.
MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightFootlightTexture1.png MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightFootlightTexture2.png MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightFootlightTexture3.png MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightFootlightTexture4.png MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightFootlightTexture5.png MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightFootlightTexture6.png MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightFootlightTexture7.png MSSMarioStadiumFootlightTexture1.png MSSMarioStadiumFootlightTexture2.png MSSMarioStadiumFootlightTexture3.png A lot of the textures used for the footlights were simply combined into smaller textures.
MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightScoreboardFlagTexture.png MSSMarioStadiumScoreboardFlagTexture.png The flags seen on top of the scoreboard is less detailed, and bigger in the early version.
MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightGrassTexture1.png
MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightGrassTexture2.png
MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightGrassTexture3.png
MSSMarioStadiumGrassTexture1.png MSSMarioStadiumGrassTexture2.png The texture for the grass is smaller and more saturated in the early version. The final version of the grass graphic is more realistic and two times the size of the early texture. The texture for the sides of the grass originally had dirt, which the final version uses a realistic texture for the sides without dirt.
MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightDirtTexture.png
MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightDirtChalkTexture.png
MSSMarioStadiumDirtTexture.png
MSSMarioStadiumDirtChalkTexture1.png
MSSMarioStadiumDirtChalkTexture2.png
The dirt texture is darker in the early version, which was made lighter in the final version. The chalk texture was changed in the final version, to have one only consisting of the chalk, and one with parts of the dirt on the side of the chalk.
MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightNintendoLogoTexture.png MSSMarioStadiumNintendoLogoTexture.png The Nintendo logo is smaller in the early version, but bigger in the final version.
MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightBeachHouseSidesTexture.png
MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightBeachHouseCeilingRidgeTexture.png
MSSMarioStadiumBeachHouseSidesTexture.png The sides of the beach house originally had the texture cropped in the early version. The final version has the textures sides extended, but shrunken. The texture for the ridges was combined into one texture in the final version.
MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightRoofStructureTexture1.png MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightRoofStructureTexture2.png MSSMarioStadiumRoofStructureTexture1.png MSSMarioStadiumRoofStructureTexture2.png The textures used for the roof structure is bigger in the early version, but shrunken in the final.
MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightBrickTexture.png MSSMarioStadiumBrickTexture.png The textures used for the bricks is bigger in the early version, but shrunken in the final.
MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightScoreBoardScreenTexture1.png MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightScoreBoardScreenTexture1.png MSSMarioStadiumScoreBoardScreenTexture1.png MSSMarioStadiumScoreBoardScreenTexture1.png The scoreboard screen is bigger and light enough to see each light bulb in the early version. This was changed in the final version, being smaller and darker, making it hard to see the light bulbs.
MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightStandsWallTexture1.png MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightStandsWallTexture2.png MSSMarioStadiumStandsWallTexture1.png MSSMarioStadiumStandsWallTexture2.png Various wall textures used for the stands are bigger in the early version, but smaller in the final.
MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightStandsWallTexture3.png MSSMarioStadiumStandsWallTexture3.png The texture for the lighthouse had a increase in saturation in the final version. The texture is bigger in the early version, but shrunken in the final.
MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightWindowTexture1.png MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightWindowTexture2.png MSSEarlyMarioStadiumNightWindowTexture3.png MSSMarioStadiumWindowTexture1.png MSSMarioStadiumWindowTexture2.png MSSMarioStadiumWindowTexture3.png The window textures are bigger in the early version, but shrunken in the final.
